Allan Dershowitz: The Big Question

(1) big pigThe lyrics of Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers’ song “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” have come to mind when I consider the Dershowitz Affair. I find myself humming: “Tell me why, why, why, why, oh why, why is Virginia Roberts lying.”

Dershowitz on his Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey type circuit of America protesting his innocence and proclaiming that Virginia Roberts is lying has resulted in the following comments from people. “The man dost protest too much.”  Another person wondered “Why the big publicity campaign.”  A third asked “what’s with this line up of attorneys and people who have sprung up to defend him if he’s so innocent?”

We do know though that Alan wasn’t particularly choosy in who he associated with as we see from his long-term association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. (The logs from Epstein’s plane show Dershowitz on a flight with Epstein from Bedford, Mass., to Teterboro in October 1998, and a flight from Teterboro to Martha’s Vineyard in 1999. In a 2003 article he told Vanity Fair:  “I’m on my 20th book…. The only person outside of my immediate family that I send drafts to is Jeffrey.”) That brings to mind the old saying “birds of a feather flock together” along with an offtake of that: “You can tell a man by the company he keeps.”

The thing I can’t figure out is why out of all the men this young woman Virginia Roberts serviced beginning at age 15 she put the finger on two of them that I know about. One, Prince Andrew, who even with the support of all the queen’s horses and all the queen’s men won’t be able to put Randy Andy together again. He seems to be pretty cooked with Virginia’s diary about him along with pictures showing him with his arm around her naked waist.

So what is the reason that out of the blue she decided to pick on Alan? I’m not sure Alan has given us an adequate explanation of this. All he has done is use the forums which seem to be available to him and not to many others to give his blanket denials and present his side of the story which consists of nothing more than categorically denying her allegations and calling her a liar. I’d like to hear him give a reason why of all the people she could have named she dimed him out.

She had to have known of his reputation for going after people. Oh, I know, that’s what attorneys tell you they have to do when their client is accused of a crime. They have to go after the victims and tear them down in any way they can with their well-paid investigators. Virginia would have known this. She’d also have known that few would fly to her defense for fear of alienating Alan who might go after anyone who supported her as he did when he said he was going to go after her lawyers and seek their disbarment and as he’s doing suggesting she is an unfit mother.

So why is it she’s done this and seen her name trashed by him. She said in an affidavit that she saw Alan on television calling her a “liar.” She wrote: “He is lying by denying he had sex with me. That man is the same man who I had sex with at least six times.”

Dershowitz has said: “It’s a completely, totally fabricated, made-up story. I have never had sex with an underage woman. They made up this story out of whole cloth. I’m an innocent victim of an extortion conspiracy.”

But from what I have read, Virginia is not seeking to extort anything from Alan. She’s not after any money from him. We know Alan has thrown the word ‘extortion’ around so much that it is meaningless when coming from his mouth. So if it is not that, what is the reason she decided to name Alan as one of her sex partners when she was a girl.

Motive, Alan, motive! You got to point to a motive as to why Virginia lied about you as you say she is doing. As Frankie Lymon would say: “Tell us Why!”

  1. Boston Globe 2005

Dershowitz called yesterday for a complete overhaul of rape laws in Massachusetts, including lowering the age of consent “considerably”….

  2. Good points, Matt. According to this article, Dershowitz also represented a raunchy, but wealthy, pornogropher who died last year, Al Goldstein.
The nude beach, child sex trafficking and pornogropher he associated himself with are beginning to clarify the picture of this Harvard icon. He should be shunned 😉

“He clearly coarsened American sensibilities,” Alan M. Dershowitz, the civil liberties advocate and Goldstein’s sometime lawyer, said in 2004.

“Hefner did it with taste,” Dershowitz added, referring to Hugh Hefner, the founder and publisher of Playboy, which predated Screw by 15 years. “Goldstein’s contribution is to be utterly tasteless.”

“Epstein mounted an aggressive counterinvestigation. Epstein’s friend Alan Dershowitz, the Harvard law professor, provided the police and the state attorney’s office with a dossier on a couple of the victims gleaned from their MySpace sites—showing alcohol and drug use and lewd comments. The police complained that private investigators were harassing the family of the 14-year-old girl before she was to appear before the grand jury in spring 2006. The police said that one girl had called another to say, “Those who help [Epstein] will be compensated and those who hurt him will be dealt with.”

    1. Patty:

What’s amazing is that Dershowitz is still given op-ed space in the Wall Street Journal telling Democrats they should show respect for Netanyahu. Dershowitz should be avoided like we avoid Ebola but as you know our society and federal government can be manipulated by those with money and power and friends in the media. Notice the silence of the Boston media when it comes to Dershowitz and it tells you all you need to know.

  4. What is that old line? The more he proclaimed his innocence the faster I counted the spoons. Torture’s denials ring hollow. How the mighty have fallen? Brought down by a 15 year old. 2. A guy name Richie from Savin Hill use to drink in Galvin’s on Dot Ave. He and his friend were about twenty years old. At closing they would take a cab to Chinatown to eat. Some of the older patrons would accompany them downtown. One of the older types was Spike O’Toole. After several visits there he was approached by a Boston Cop who asked him if he knew who Spike was. Richie thought just a neighborhood guy. He was told Spike was an OC killer. Richie and friend lost their appetites. Once they knew who they were dealing with they altered their behavior. Compare that to Torture befriending Epstein knowing full well what he was up to. It would be comparable to inviting OJ over your house after his murders. Similar to Carr befriending Gucci Martorano knowing he shot twenty unarmed people in the back of the head. 3. Ronald Reagan, our best president, often quoted James Michener’s line ” Where do we get these men”? It was from the Korean War book where the Navy Captain marvels at the courage, bravery and audacity of Navy pilots flying into harms way during that conflict. The question today is ‘Where do we get these perverts”? Epstein. Weiner, Allen, Spitzer. Torture P. Andrew. What a sorry lot. 4. The Repubs in Congress could have many laughs by holding hearings on the Mann Act. File a bill to extend the Statue by ten years and increase the fine to two billion dollars. Call Torture, Epstein, Clinton and his aids. Give Epstein immunity if necessary. Have Robin Leach do a show Lifestyles of the Rich and Perverted using the same cast of characters.
