Did We Just Send A Nazi Officer Back To Germany? Or Were We Fooled Again?

Tuesday night somewhere in the state of West Virginia Trump announced that “The last known Nazi officer living in the United States, they’ve been trying to get him out for decades, President Obama tried, they all tried. We got him out — gone. He’s back in Germany.”

Was Jakiw Palif the man referred to by Trump a Nazi officer? Was he a Nazi?  According to Wikipedia “When it came to power in 1933, the Nazi Party had over 2 million members. In 1939, the membership total rose to 5.3 million with 81% being male and 19% being female. It continued to attract many more and by 1945 the party reached its peak of 8 million with 63% being male and 37% being female (about 10% of the German population of 80 million).”

I suppose if that is the case we cannot say all Germans were Nazis or can we? If any of those Germans helped the Nazis would they have become Nazis?

Jakiw  Palif was Polish. I believe the Nazi party did not accept Slavic people as members. I have to assume then that no one is suggesting that he joined the Nazi Party (other than Trump). When the Germany invaded his country on September 1, 1939, he was either 15 or 16 years old. It would turn out that by the time he was 18 he had been conscripted to work for the German Army as a prison guard. If one is put in that position does he become a Nazi?

During WWII tens of millions of French citizens worked for the Nazis. The Nazis had invaded France and occupied a part of it and allowed the French to set up a  government in the rest of it which became know as unoccupied France, or Vichy France. It got that name because its leaders operated out of the town of Vichy. Although unoccupied, the French had no army to defend it so it did its best to keep the Nazis happy by collaborating with them.

The Nazis set up quotas for the French workers in the unoccupied part of France to be sent to Germany to work to assist the German war effort. Some worked in the German armament factories. No one called those French people conscripted by the Nazis to work in Germany Nazis.

The Nazis did that to the people in other countries that it had occupied. It took by force young men and women back to Germany to work. One had no choice. It was work for us or die. The Nazis allowed some French to perform other tasks in France that also aided the Nazi effort. No one called them Nazis.

The basic question is does one lose his or her identity if forced by an invading power to work for it? When the United States invaded Panama or Iraq or Vietnam it had people work for it. Did they become Americans. When the Japanese during WWII invaded the Philippines did the American prisoners they forced to work at the end of a barrel of a gun become Japanese.

If not, how was it that Jakiw Palif became a Nazi? He neither joined the Nazi party or had a choice in what he would do if he wanted to stay alive.

It is said he worked as a prison guard at a Nazi concentration camp where terrible atrocities took place. Did being forced to work there turn him into a Nazi? Palif denied that he had anything to do with the horrors. There is no proof otherwise. Does the mere fact that he was a prison guard turn him into a Nazi?

The Israeli Times in speaking of Palij said: “Even if his role was only to prevent their escape, that constitutes a war crime.”  Does a man forced to do something against his will that involves no violence commit a war crime? What if he guarded bridges? What if he maintained the railroad tracks? Does it make a difference what he did  for the Nazis if he had no choice?

Chuck Shumer added his praise to Trump’s action. He tweeted: “Nazi prison guards have no place in the USA. We must stand firmly against hate, anti-Semitism and bigotry in all its forms. Good riddance to this war criminal.” Was he a war criminal? If he was, did all Germans and those French who worked for the Germans become war criminals? Or did he become one because he came to America? Unlike the French and Germans he could not go back home because the Soviets overran his country?

“Thank you ⁦@ICEgov⁩ for apprehending an ACTUAL Nazi & deporting him. This would be a good occasion for radical Democrats to reconsider their ill-advised attacks [on] brave ⁦@ICEgov⁩ officers,” tweeted Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark. How brave must those ICE officers have been to grab a 95-year-old ill guy from his home? Was he an “ACTUAL Nazi?”

Jakiw Palif had been living in the U.S. since the late 1940s. In 1993 the U.S. group set up to look for Nazis found him. The following 25 years he was chased after by the U.S. government. He first had his citizenship stripped. He then had an order of deportation signed against him. He could not be deported until another country was willing to take him. Germany had refused to take him back because he wasn’t a German citizen. Trump put pressure on it.  Finally because Trump was making it such a big deal it succumbed. He’s now back there and in a nursing home where he is a complete stranger.

I find little satisfaction in this happening. Those extolling this action as something significant depend on the ignorance of Americans to make their point. I find it strange that people so low down the line of responsibility for Nazi cruelties and atrocities are puffed up into what they were not. Sadly few now alive understand what happened in WWII to people captured by the Nazis and the Japanese. One who clearly doesn’t is Trump.

Did FBI Director Hoover Know Of Pearl Harbor?
    By Thomas O’Toole
    December 2, 1982
In the war of words over who was to blame for the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor 41 years ago, fresh evidence is emerging that the late FBI director J. Edgar Hoover had a hand in the intelligence bungles that led the United States to heed none of the warnings that the invasion was imminent.

The new evidence is supplied by Michigan State University historians John F. Bratzel and Leslie B. Rout Jr., who write in the current issue of The American Historical Review that Hoover received a double warning more than three months before the attack that the Ja

  3. I do hope the ACLU or CLUM looks into the FEDs likely concealment from Defense Counsel certain exculpatating facts, as required under Brady, as I understand it.

Also, as Abe aptly notes Silence is sometimes warranted under Terroristic States, Repressive Regimes, Totalitarian Governments, to protect one’s family, as in NIcaragua under the Sandis and other central American countries last century and even now.

Sadly, many in America today are silent for they fear reprisals from the Totalitarian/Power Abusing FEDs currently in Office

A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS TO LIVE IN TOTALITARIAN STATE WHERE FEDERAL PROSECUTORS PERSECUTE THE INNOCENT AND WITHHOLD EXCULPATATING EVIDENCE, AND WORSE, MUCH WORSE, criminalize free speech, like writing letters to a judge or telling someone you heard through the grapevine an indictment was coming down or telling a prisoner to tell the truth . . .

And these are just the abuses of power and constitutional rights and civil liberties that we currently know about

what else have and are these enemies of the constitution and freedom cooking up?

  4. True, Abe, once again, all counts, especially about Brigitte Bardot . . .

Now here’s how the wheels grind exceedingly fine: We know the FEDs (in DC and Boston, federal prosecutors) withheld Fitzpatrick’s Exculpating Memo from Connolly’s defense team in Miami. That’s a fact, Jack.

We now know as quoted above from RICO that Wyshak argued at a Federal Appeals Court in Boston that Flemmi was a serial perjurer who told “multiple lies” under oath and his testimony at trial was beyond belief, utterly incredible.

Now the Big Question: Did Wyshak disclose his Appeals Court arguments to Connolly’s Miami Defense team . . .If he had not, he violated the BRADY RULE, where prosecutors must disclose info favorable to the defense

Secondly, if he had, he would have been called as a witness in Miami to impugn the testimony of his key witness, FLEMMI, whom he knew was a serial perjurer who could not be trusted.

As is well known,a Prosecutor cannot be both a witness and a prosecutor at the same trial, and Wyshak should have recused himself, knowing he could have been called as a witness to impugn Flemmi

Remember, finally for 8 years Flemmi testified under oath Connolly was an honest cop . . .Wyshak got a hold of him in about 2003-2004 and Flemmi began to sing, compose a different tune. Wyshak had him “remember” that 20 years earlier Connolly said, “If Callahan talks we’ll all be in trouble” this confirmed Martorano’s 1999 memory singing the same tune. Only these two connected Connolly, howsoever nebulously, to Callahan.

The Plot Thickens . . .did Wyshak conceal his appeals court arguments denouncing Flemmi as a serial perjurer from Connolly’s Miami Defense Team.

  5. Yes, the past is prologue and as Santana or Santyanna (sp?) said, “We must know the past or we are doomed to repeat it.”

But we can’t live in the past or even linger there for very long.

    We have Present Illnesses.

    We have Present Conspiracies afoot:

I’ve encapsulated the Present Illness as a Syndrome: M.A.F.I.A. . . . a constellation of symptoms besetting America, the good old USA, today, here and now . . .

And the DISEASE is a corrupt, ideological Media (MSM . .mostly leftist-liberal today), Academia (mostly leftist-liberal today in Political Science, Arts, History, Legal fields etc) the FEDS (mostly leftist-liberal at the top, including RINOs and NEOCONS) and the Internationalists-Interventionists-Imperialists (NEOCONS plus HILLARY HILLARIANS) and finally, the A, the letter A, the last letter in MAFIA, stands for the ATHEISTIC-ANTOGONISTS . . .it’s all spelled in my novel novel Mac the Dog, a true story, told in fiction-form, the story of how Madeline, Andy, Tiger and Mac Changed the World . . . .by, by, by . . . .putting pen to paper . . . . .by helping a few guys get up, and knocking a few guys off their high horses, by calling a spade a spade, and counting coup . . .as said, “Fight for freedom on the relatively bloodless battlefields of fearless expressionism.”

“You may be right; I may be crazy; but it just may be a lunatic your looking for” Billy Joel, who was not born on July 26, my birthday, Mick Jagger was, although Mick is older than me, we both look good for our age . . . .as does Billy J.

    1. Brigitte Bardot and I share the same birthday. Beat that!

To be silent in the face of injustice is:
      -life saving.

So many of the people around here that I know from El Salvador and Nicaragua lived through a time where silence in the face of injustice was the only option. Of course their predicament has nothing to do with what you are talking about. I’m just pointing it out.

No one had to knock on my door this week and tell me to lower my flag to half mast.

  6. To be silent in the face of injustice is:
    – to acquiesce in it;
    – to condone it;
    – to incite and invite more of the same;

Silence in the face of injustice is injustice metastaticaly multiplied.

Evil triumphs by cowering and silently silencing good men.

    2. As MSFREEH evidently has a self-effacing sense of humor, I now withdraw my accusation and apologize for the indictment . . .something corrupt FED Prosecutors never do, that is apologize for wrongful decisions/indictments . . . .I make amends to MSFREEH because firstly FED plants generally lack a sense of humor and rarely are self-effacing . . .they mimic and emulate their smug egomaniacial FED Power Abusers . . . . .so it now seems unlikely to me that MSFREEH is a plant . . .but we TEST to strengthen and prove matters, and also to discard unworthy matters or unworthy hypothesis . . .we’ve tested the waters and MSFREEH is now free of suspicion as a FED Plant

Having now admitted Msfreeh is not a plant, I still wish she’d limit her posts about conspiracy theories to a paragraph or less . . .the reference or link would suffice for those interested/bemused . . . . .

MSFREEH must understand, as a rational person, that her posts by and large have nothing to do with the subject matter at hand . . .and are a DISTRACTIONS DETRACTING from the DIALOGUE

So, to seek peace with all my fellow human beings . . .even with the FED bullies after they are knocked off their high horses, even Howie Carr after he apologizes for 40 years of calumnies, even FED WYSHAK after he’s prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and outside the law to the fullest extent by writers like myself for all his and his cohorts’ abuses of power and after all those abuses are exposed for all the world to see . . . .

so to seek peace I say this: Peace will never come when good people are silent in the face of Injustice, silent in the face of FEDs’ abusing power, and silent in the face of MSFREEH frittering away precious space on this blog with paragraph after paragraph of conspiracy theories.

Otherwise, have a good day. Peace to all persons of good will; to those not of good will: Special Forces and Prosecution in the courts of Public Opinion via the Penmanship of Free Citizens writing and speaking freely.

    Adieu!

  8. That’s the OUROBORUS , Abe – think it is derived from ancient Greek for … Tail devourer or eater … Symbolizes Wholeness and Infinity. Very ancient symbol !!!

    Bill is a closed circuit.

  9. A snake grabs the tip of its tail and eats its way up its own body towards its head. How does this end, Bill?

  10. As Jim Morrison of the Doors’ sang, “The time to hesitate is through, no time to wallow in the mire, wait and we can only lose, and our love become a funeral pyre, come on baby, light my fire.” It makes more sense with the music, as did Steppenwolf’s contemporaneous, “Monster”.

The Truth will out, and historical revisionists will fade from memory

  11. Bill:

    The Past is Prologue.

Your argument is puzzling as you seem to selectively “wallow” in whatever mud flats of history are convenient for you to cake yourself in.

Wasted effort to reason with unreason

  12. Msfreeh’s commentary is lunatic fringe stuff . . .as I adjudge her to be not a lunatic, my only logical conclusion is she posts for Disinformational Purposes . .to detract from the serious lucid anti-government posts on this site

Do you think rational folks who read these lunatic conspiracy theories give them any credit?

Would the FEDs, the DEEP STATE, stoop to the massive collection of DATA on ordinary citizens, to planting stories in Newspapers, to prosecuting innocent folks? We know they have. I’d put nothing past the current regime in the Deep State of the last twenty years . . . .and yes there are stooges and plants and unwitting witless conspiracy theorists who are fed drivel by the FEDs and then propagate it.

    2. Carl Bernstein says he writes The Truth: he writes only the facts as he knows them at the then present time and his opinions. The Truth, “As Pilot said to Jesus in the musical, “We all have truths, are yours the same as mine.”

    3. Here’s to tidbit to make you gag whenver you hear the name Fred Wyshak henceforth. You know Wyshak put Flemmi on the stand knowing that for 8 years, from 1995-2003, and twice under oath, Flemmi testified John Connolly was an honest cop who never intended anyone be harmed. Wyshak had him sing a different song in Miami in 2006 . . .
Here’s a quote from the book RICO: Wyshak long knew Flemmi was a lying perjurer who couldn’t be trusted and yet he used him 2006:
“In Wyshak’s own words () Flemmi’s testimony in a 1999 case was ‘belated, inconsistent and inherently implausible . . .” adding that he had ‘repeatedly lied’ during testimony at a pre-trial hearing.” End quote. RICO, the book, page 185.

Wyshak’s “harsh words” came in 2000; he never gave Flemmi a polygraph, the RICO book reports, and yet in 2006 he puts this known serial perjurer,, serial killer on the witness stand in Miami to compose a new songbird’s rendition of events . . .

As I’ve said: There’s FEDs who’d murder (Morris admitted leaking names intending men be killled) and there’s FEDs who put known perjurers on the witness stand and there’s FEDs who deny collecting mass data on Americans and FEDs who plant stories in Newspapers and FEDs who leak Bill Bulger’s grand jury testimony . . . .

Let’s focus on what corrupt FEDs are doing contemporaraneously,, today, within the last two decades . . . .not ancient history . . . .

    Deal with the present illness first . . . .corrupt FEDs . . . .

Remember the Alamo, and never forget what Wyshak did . . .and he and his cohorts are doing . . . .

  13. Bill:

You are sounding brittle. Why don’t you display some of your tremendous command of logic and lay out the case as to why Freeh Bulletins is an FBI ” Plant. ” You cannot, for the statement is absurd on its face. Enough with your sour commentary about Freeh’s motives and right to freely express opinions. Enough with your cracks about ” Displaying your grotesque bloomers ” to the one lady we have who posts here with judicial intent.

A WISE MAN ONCE SAID NOTHING

    That’s different from SILENCE .

    How ?!?

    1. Silence is golden, gold is money, money is talk, talk is cheap.

      Therefore; Talk is cheap?

Msfreeh is doing exactly as you profess, Bill. She is speaking. Because she believes things you do not believe she frightens you. That is why, in my opinion, you give her that label. Do you honestly think that the FBI thinks of this blog as so far reaching that it deserves attention? Do you think she is a well paid troll that spends her entire day infiltrating hundreds of blogs with this propaganda? Do you have faith in The Warren Report? I don’t.

I’ll never forget the Zappa concert when someone yelled to Frank, “You’re trying to control us! You should be wearing a uniform!”

Zappa replied, “We are all wearing uniforms.”

As I have said before, we all end up making our own decisions in life.

  14. Beware the modern day Javerts on their Jihads . .

.first they came for the mentally ill and disabled . . .then they fabricatingly singled out “rogue agents”, cutting obscenely lenient deals with perjurious serial killers to do so . . .then they came for the probation officers . . . .

Harvey Silverglate warned you: Power Abusing Feds can single out any one of you and charge you with violating at least three federal crimes, today . . . .sadly we’ve entrusted untrustworthy politically-pettily-spitefully motivated zealots with unbridled State Power . . .

    En Garde!

    Silence in the face of injustice is . . . . .

  15. I am a free thinking American citizen who kowtows to no one.

I’m not a plant; MSFREEH is. I’m an animal, a mammal, a man.

I no more would waste my breath on Conspiracy Nutcases than the Anti-Vaccination Screwballs who on video seem “rational” to some.

There’s scholarly fields of inquiry: Science, Biology, Microbiology, Physics, History, Political Science, the Law, Psychiatry, Medicine, Philosophy, Sociology, Public Health, Economics, Business etc, etc, that are taught at major colleges and universities:

Voodoo Science and Voodoo revisionistic historical histrionics and Voodoo Conspiracy Theories and Voodoo Anti-Vaccination Ignorance are not taught.

Focus on the Present Illness, as they do in Medicine: Treat society’s Present socio-political diseases. Leave history, the past, to rigorous historical study by Historians/Philosophers, et al, of some Repute, and leave the efficacy of Vaccinations to Epidemiologists, Virologists and Medical-Nursing-Public-Health Specialists.

Remember, the highly-educated Nazis made Eugenics (mercy killings, first of the mentally ill and disabled) sound rational.

People caution that there are consequences to what we say and write. History has taught us that there are consequences to SILENCE.

Silence, acquiesence, acceptance of Abuse of Power, for example. Silence in the face of evil.

As said, all that is necessary for Evil to triumph is for good people to do and say nothing; for good people to be SILENT, SILENCED, for good people to sit on the sidelines and say nothing about those who abuse State-FED-Power.

Watchdog Group Confirms Trump’s Involvement in FBI Headquarters Project

    Current FBI headquarters

    By Steve Neavling
    Ticklethewire.com

The GSA administrator who is overseeing the construction of a new FBI headquarters may have misled Congress about President Trump’s involvement in the debate over where to build a new campus, according to a government watchdog report released Monday.

The GSA inspector general report also claims officials understated the costs of building a new headquarters in downtown Washington D.C. by suggesting it would cost less than the original plan of erecting a new campus in the suburbs.

The current headquarters sits near Trump’s Washington D.C. hotel.

The GSA last year scrapped a plan to build a new FBI headquarters in the suburbs in favor of building a smaller headquarters in downtown D.C., which would require some staff to relocate to Alabama, Idaho and West Virginia.

The inspector general’s report concluded that testimony by GSA Administrator Emily Murphy “was incomplete and may have left the misleading impression that she had no discussions with the President or senior White House officials about the project.”

During the hearing, Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., asked Murphy, “To your knowledge, was the president or anyone else at the White House involved in those discussions, either with your predecessors, people you’re working with now, or yourself?”

Murphy responded, “The direction that we got came from the FBI. It was the FBI that directed to GSA as to what its requirements would be. We obviously did coordinate, given that it is a substantial budget request, we coordinated that request with OMB to provide for funding but the requirements were generated by the FBI.”

The Post reports that Murphy had discussed the project with Trump, White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly, senior White House adviser Jared Kushner and other White House officials

Some Congressional members accused Trump of intervening because his hotel is a stone’s throw from the FBI headquarters, and the president doesn’t want a competing hotel to replace the brutalist building.

    1. Bill:

You are open-minded. Watch that YouTube Ms. has posted that is preceded by – And Who Can Forget – supra. A very sober academic, Ed Tatro, makes a strong case for Lyndon Johnson from : Ballot Box 13 rigging in ’48 Texas election that made him : Getting a five year suspended sentence for a convicted murderous protege, Wallace ; Billy Sol Estes , business associate, testifying to murder of Mr.Marshall who, in ’61 was home in Texas with real dirt on federal cotton subsidies corruption by Lyndon and the local … Firm ( my term ) ; The fact that Bobby Kennedy was about to take him down to Chinatown on the Bobby Baker fixer/bagman stuff …. And …. Much …. Much …. More …..Being the Prime Mover …. Of John F. Kennedy … From this Planet to Infinity .

So, a compelling , dreaded ” CONSPIRACY ” theory, Bill. Do you think you could meet this guy, Ed Tatro, and call him a nut ?

He seems rational to me !!!

  19. I am still of the mind that Msfreeh is a Female Fed paid to put lunatic conspiracy theories on this site so that rational folks will steer clear of reading the rest of us, the Commentators with rational Anti-Fed, Anti-MSM, anti-Group-Think, anti Orwellian Agit-Prop fed to us by Deep State FEDs and their cohorts in the MSM and Academia. FACT. NOT SAID IRONICALLY.

If Msfreeh is not a FED PLANT, the FEDS/MSM Propagandists et al are happy, nevertheless, to have HER litter this blog with CRAZY CONCOCTIONS such as Who KIlled Kennedy and Hitler’s Present Day Hideaway.

    2. There’s real evil in the world . . . .FEDs abusing power . . .journalists covering up for each other, protecting each other, like the old boys network, like a pack of wolves . .echoing each other, mimicking each other, wanting to be accepted, lauded, hailed, wanting to fit in . . . .there’s Saudis bombing a busload of ten year olds . . . unjust wars . . . neocons conceptualizing America as an Imperialistic-Interventionistic-World-Cop, like ye old British Empire . . .real evils afoot . .

Lesser evils, too, must not be countenanced, as they lead to greater evils: the words of Character Assassins and of the Crazed Conspiracy Theorists I count among those evils, as they stoke the fires of hatred, disinformation, delusion, ignorance, distrust . . .

there is such things as settled matters: all children should be vaccinated against certain childhood diseases; there’s such things as a scientific consensus, a historical . .

Yes, sometimes all the gurus are wrong and continuous research, fine tuning, revisionism as needed and rational criticism are good . . .

but the Conspiracy Crazies are always wrongful and harmful . . .

Why waste human resources on Conspiracy Theories when we presently have so many pressing problems?

    3. David Gray sang it best, “Lies, ruin, disease, into wounds like these, let the truth sting.”

And he also sang about “the clenched fist” and how we are not going to effectuate Peace “using hate as the catalyst.”

    3. Don’t encourage the character assassins or conspiracy lunatics.

    4. Today and henceforth let’s focus on the real rot in government and the media/press and in academia and in politics and in society . . .there are pressing political-social and medical ills . . .”Lies, ruin, disease, into wounds like these, LET THE TRUTH STING.” and let’s hear from all sides, left and right . . . .

and please, enough of the lunacies . . .of course they’ll continue, fanatics can face facts, nor can FED DISINFORMATION ARTISTS, propagandists who like Clapper was it or Brennan who lied to Congress about collecting mass data on American Citizens; and what could be more treasonous (using the term literarily, not legalisticall) than a recently retired CIA/Intelligence Official slandering a sitting President, attempting to unseat him?

Oh, yes, the wolves are in the corridors of power, in the FEDs and MSM . . . .and like Dostoevsky’s Grand Inquisitor who thinks he understands that the people can’t handle freedom so he burns and silences critics and dissidents, so, too, the FEDs and MSM think they Rule and not We the Deplorable People who really can’t handle freedom . . .and really didn’t know what we were doing when we elected Trump and voted against Big Brother, the Neocons, the Fat Cats, the Hillarians, the Big Gov Libs.

P.S. musing on a muggy morn, before my coffee . . .have a good day . . .fight the bullies in the FEDs and MSM

P.P.S. I learned much from tough teachers, tough coaches; I like tough teachers who expect the most from us; tough music teachers who demand practice; tough couches who got the best out of us physically, mentally and spiritually, made us give it our all; and we need tough cops who take no guff and tough drill instructors who ready the troops and tough generals and tough officials who must make the hard decisions . .

.but we don’t need the bullies . . .we don’t need the mud slingers . . .in this regard, too, the President should stop throwing spitballs and refrain from vitriole and invectives

So, now I’m going to get my coffee and some cereal or an English muffin . . .

    Adieu . .

    The Necessary Embrace of Conspiracy
    by
    Robert Shetterly
Several years ago I gave a talk on Martha’s Vineyard about many of the people whose portraits I’ve painted in the Americans Who Tell the Truth series. I spent some time talking about the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. When I talk about King, I like to focus on his last year — the period when, defying the advice of many of his advisors in the civil rights movement, he spoke against the Vietnam War, equating racism with imperialism. King felt bound to make the point that the forces of capitalism, materialism, and militarism that were driving segregation were also driving the war, and until we confronted the source of the problem, the abuses would continue. It was April 4, 1967, in Riverside Church in New York, that he made that declaration. A year to the day before his assassination.

It has always confounded me every year when we celebrate Dr. King’s life that no mention is made of that Riverside Church speech in the major media. We are always treated to sound bites of the 1963 I Have a Dream speech. That speech’s oratory is as powerful as it is non-confrontational. Which is why it is re-played for modern audiences. Dr. King was about confrontation. Non-violence and confrontation, each ennobling and making the other effective. In 1967 he said, “… my country is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today.” And he explained how our economic system thrived on exploitation and violence, or, as Emma Goldman put it, “The greatest bulwark of capitalism is militarism.” This was probably the most important speech King ever gave and not playing it when we ostensibly honor him, is tantamount to castrating him morally and intellectually. Just as there is a long history of White America castrating black men, there is an equal legacy of Elite America cutting the most important truths of our social prophets out of the history books. We pay homage to King’s icon, the cardboard cutout, but not to his strongest beliefs and his most cogent analysis of our problems — to what vision called forth his courage. And, if we think that he spoke the truth, to censor that truth is to promote a curious kind of segregation. He is segregated, not for the color of his skin, but for the accuracy of his perception, how close to the bone his words cut. We can’t bear to hear the sound of truth’s knife scraping on hypocrisy’s bone. Only people who actually want to change the system dance to that music or want it to be heard.

Equally important, and part of the same neglect, is the intentional ignoring of the facts of his death. In my talk on Martha’s Vineyard I spoke about William Pepper’s book, An Act of State: The Execution of Martin Luther King, Jr. Pepper had been James Earl Ray’s lawyer. Ray was the man convicted of killing King. But both Pepper and the King family were convinced that Ray was innocent. The King family hired Pepper to represent them in a suit; they asked only $100.00 in damages to clear Ray’s name. Before the trial came to court in 1999, Ray had died in prison. The jury determined that King had been assassinated by a conspiracy involving the Memphis police, the Mafia, the FBI, and the Special Forces of the U.S. Army. Ray, the patsy, had left town before the shot was fired. Pepper had confessions from people involved from each of the organizations named. The verdict was barely mentioned in the U.S. media then and is not mentioned every year on the anniversary of his death. Why?

After my talk on Martha’s Vineyard a man came up to me and said, “I enjoyed your speech and was with you until you started that conspiracy stuff about MLK, Jr.” I said, “That’s not conspiracy. What I told you are facts.” End of conversation.

I think we’re confronted with two conspiracies here: one to commit the crime, the other to ignore it even when the facts are known. ( Two sides of the same coin.) The man who accused me of slipping into the neurotic, aliens-are-among-us land of conspiracy nuts was unable to hear the evidence, perhaps because he was so utterly convinced by our government and media that conspiracies don’t exist, people who espouse them are dangerous fruitcakes, and if you begin to think like that, your whole house of cards wobbles then topples. Who wants that? Better a standing tower of marked cards, than having to admit the game is rigged and the ground is shaking.

America is steeped in conspiracy, and even more steeped in propaganda that discredits those who try to expose the conspiracies. Whether we’re talking about MLK, Jr., JFK, RFK, Iran-Contra, 9/11, or, most importantly, the status quo, anyone who works to uncover the truth is branded a “conspiracy nut” and discredited before any evidence has a fair hearing. The government/corporate/media version is THE VERSION. Anything else is illusory.

In fact, the cultural success of labeling investigative reporters and forensic historians, and, simply, anyone who tries to name reality, “conspiracy nuts” is perhaps the most successful conspiracy of our time. Well, not the most successful. That prize goes to the conspiracy to give corporations all the rights of individual persons under our Constitution. That conspiracy has codified and consolidated corporate power so that it controls our lives in almost every meaningful way. It controls the election funds of our candidates, and them once they are in office. It controls our major media including public broadcasting. It controls the content of our television programming. It controls how are tax dollars are spent making sure that the richest get the most welfare. It controls the laws, the courts, the prison system and the mind numbing propaganda that we are the greatest democracy on earth. It controls the values with which we raise our children. It controls our ability to dispense justice. It controls how we treat nature, how we deface our land with strip malls, and blow the tops off our mountains — a form of corporate free speech. It dictates our modes of transportation. It controls our inability to respond to true crises like climate change. It attempts to create a spiritual deficiency in every person that can be filled and healed only with stuff — and no stuff is ever enough.

As Richard Grossman puts it, “Isn’t it an old story? People create what looks to be a nifty machine, a robot, called the corporation. Over time, the robots get together and overpower the people. … For a century, the robots propagandize and indoctrinate each generation of people so they grow up believing that robots are people too, gifts from God and Mother Nature; that they are inevitable and the source of all that is good. How odd that we have been so gullible, so docile, obedient.”

It is obvious to say that we have been engineered into a culture that values competitive consumption and consumers instead of community cooperation and citizenship. Capitalism with its obsessive and necessary appetite for consumption, expanding markets, resource depletion, and increasing profits has consumed democracy. Have you ever watched a small snake swallow a large frog? The snake’s hinged jaw stretches wider and wider, squeezing the frog millimeter by millimeter into its gullet until finally the snake looks like the Holland Tunnel might if it had devoured the Titanic. Then the acids and enzymes do their corrosive work. The frog becomes the snake. And the snake claims it is the frog. Capitalism has gulped down democracy and claimed it is democracy. When, immediately after 9/11, President Bush advised Americans to demonstrate their love of freedom and their resistance to terrorism by courageously, selflessly, hurrying to the mall to buy something, he was speaking as the snake that identifies itself as a frog. He was asking us to play a little game with our brains’ synapses, replace the snake icon with the frog’s. Sadly, he may also have been speaking about democracy in the only way that he can understand or recognize it. And, for him, Christianity has been another tidy meal for the snake.

Perhaps this switcheroo is nowhere more obvious than in the military /industrial complex. We are told that the vulnerable frog needs protecting. The threats are grave. So we fork over our money and children’s lives for war and weapons. We are told that we are building security and peace. More lives. More weapons. What we aren’t told is that the largest US export to the world is weapons. What we aren’t told is that enormous fortunes are being made from the arms trade. What we aren’t told is that the more precarious and unstable the world is, the better the business for the arms dealers — that the real promotion is not for security and peace but insecurity and war, that the lives of our children are the necessary collateral damage for this monster. What we aren’t told is that the only real security is in cooperation, conservation, and fairness, not imperialism. The frog, who is a snake, wrapped in a flag, pleads for patriotism and counts the cash. The snake’s forked tongue is a barbeque fork on which we’ve all been roasted.

    I’d call that conspiracy.

The neocons have claimed, with some accuracy, that they can create reality faster than we can react: the deed is done, now deal with it. The troops have invaded, Halliburton, Blackwater, and Lockheed signed their contracts, the prisoners are tortured, your email is bugged, the resources for social programs are gone, the laws are changed, the Wal-Mart is built, the sludge dump has already polluted the aquifer, truth is hollowed out —- catch me if you can! How is that not conspiracy?

The cooks & the crooks create a new status quo, legalize it, propagandize it, mythologize it, fundamentalize it, slather it with fear and patriotism, and force feed it to the complacent, sedated cow we call America. How is that not conspiracy?

Of course, ever since the Constitution was signed and didn’t free the slaves or give the vote to women, poor folks, Native Americans and freed blacks so that people with power and money could continue to profit, America has been a conspiracy against itself. It’s been cowboy grilling his own heart over a smoke & mirrors campfire, a CEO with inherited wealth and three hundred years of patrician, affirmative action crooning “Only in America.”

The reason we can’t talk about conspiracy is because it is the modus operandi. It isn’t the elephant in the room, it is the room itself. We all live there. We can impeach a few elephants, and we should, but the architecture is in place. And they control it.

When I was in school, I was reminded – repeatedly — to avoid using an indefinite pronoun without identifying whom it refers to, as in, “They are coming to get us,” … or, “They control everything.” Who are They? It’s bad practice to think and write like that. Without reference it just sounds like paranoia. But the hell of it is that it’s damned hard to say who the They are that are in conspiracy to destroy democracy and, by exploitation, nature. Did They do it on purpose or merely discover by serendipity, like cavemen seeing copper ooze out of a rock by a fire, the wondrous possibility and power of what they had found. For instance, the invention of the TV was not a conspiracy. But once the realization of how TV could be used to submerge the public in a lobotomizing swamp of advertising, sound bites, inactivity, community destruction, titillation, false history, empty myth, consumption, and complicity in making fortunes for the sponsors, the program was clear. Conspiracy was the silent partner in the euphemism good business practice. And, once they saw the implications of giving corporations First Amendment rights, they were home free.

    Time to re-think conspiracy.

We need to embrace conspiracy in two ways. One, admit that it’s real, its quotidian, it’s the fabric of our lives, the mercury in the air, the dioxin in the water, it’s filling the airwaves and the marketplace and the courts and the halls of Congress before we even get out of bed every morning. Two, counter it with a conspiracy of our own. On our side we have the fundamental fact that although the corporate They can alter many of our realities, they can’t alter Reality. They can’t change the behavior of Nature. They can sell off the rain forest, but they can’t leverage the effect of cutting it. They can keep the mileage of cars poor so we’ll buy more gas, but they can’t alter the amount of oil in the ground or the damage to the atmosphere. They can privatize every human interaction and every natural resource, but they can’t privatize the laws of nature. They have conspired to change reality. We must conspire to live in harmony with Reality.

In the same way, they can conspire to kill Martin Luther King, Jr., but they can’t totally eradicate the truth of who did it and why.

Con + spirare, from the Latin. To breathe together. Those are the roots of conspiracy. Breathing together doesn’t sound like an activity of the ideologically deracinated whispering seditiously in a dank cellar or a board room, foul breaths denting a weak flame flickering over a candle nub, gunpowder or greed blackened fingers setting a timer, the whites of creased eyes glinting like knives with treason, murder, power, and deceit. Con + spirare sounds like healthy men and women standing in the sun figuring out how in the hell they are going to take care of each other and their aging mother Earth and love life while doing it. Breathing together, sharing the same air, plotting to make sure that what’s mine is yours, conspiring to save their self-respect, their ideals, the future for their children.

I want to be part of a conspiracy. Pervasive, populist, revolutionary, and totally transparent. Grassroots. Idealistic. Simplistic. Life-affirming. Community building

A conspiracy to make the common good and the love of nature the common denominator of every economic transaction.

And the simple truth is either we start breathing together, conspiring big time, right out in the open, nakedly, unashamedly, or we will have conspired in secret, by default, in our own demise.

We have let them breathe for us, and they have stolen our breath, our air, our spirit.

Secret con + spirare is death. Open con + spirare is life.

Conspiracy is dead. Long live conspiracy!

  23. Sad, pathetically sad, but True. The Group Thinking Groupies of the MSM and their minions will be unable to aptly shield their glee.
Do you read the Wall Street Journal Op-Ed Post yesterday by the guy who heads the ImpeachTrumpNow Team? It’s hysterically ludicrous, ridden with spin and falsehood.

As, so it goes. The Temper of the Times . . .terribly shallow Times. The ill logic of ideologues gets hailed, tauted and toasted, instead of roasted.

As W.B. Yeats phrased it, “The worst are full of passionate intensity.”

Next, we’ll hear more calls for impeachments, prosecutions, investigations, persecutions, shunnings (ala the Globe’s Jeff Jacoby, harkening back to Salem Witch Trial Days) and Grand Inquisitors’ Burnings at the Stake . . .of all who disagree with the hollow drums in the MSM . . .

Where are the Bill Buckley’s of the world to poke some ribs, to ridicule these savants, to poke a hole in their idiotically biased opinions.

My next book, after “Jack, the Autobiography of Bill” will be entitled “A Stitch in Time”. It will expose these contemporary jackasses, braying idiots, harmful illogical phonies and address why the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries have ripped the fabric of phenomenological Space-Time Cosmological Equilibrium and interrupted Evolution, exposing the Worst Elements in Human Nature and allowing the Worst to rise to the top, “the worst full of passionate intensity”, and that’s why a Stitch in Time is needed, and its prescriptive details are in the works, and will be included as a concluding chapter in this Opus, due out soon after Jack, the Autobiography of Bill.

    Stay Tuned . . .

    1. Neither side will ever run out of fuel because there are so many stupid people on both sides. Class is hard to find. Duende as George Frazier use to call it.

  24. In brief, why we must condemn the character assassins and mud slingers from the get go:

The mudslingers incite other mudslingers, the snowballs become an avalanche.

The mudslingers incite stone-throwers and sling-shot artists, who assault physically and verbally, individuals, family members, communities detested by the hateful mudslinger.

The mudslingers incite sycophants in State and Federal Government, Prosecutors, and Academics, who join in the persecution.

Innocents are charged, arrested, prosecuted, jailed; Stalinistic-show trials ensue; You musta done something? Wholly False. Kenny Conley, the Probation Officers, the Caswell Motel Owner, the scores upon scores falsely prosecuted, even those forced to accept “plea deals” less they face 50 years in prison, bankruptcy, loss of house and the kids’ inability to pay for college . . .all of these scores upon scores falsely persecuted by the FEDs just in the Boston Area.

One last example: The Federal Office of the Sterns Gang (Sterns, Durham, Wyshak et al) and their conspiratorial buddies in the Federal Clerk’s Office and Courtrooms LEAKED (that is hand-delivered) the Transcript of Bill Bulger’s Grand Jury Testimony to the Boston Globe. Based on selective excerpts from it the Globe demanded a Congressional Intestigation. Congress dutifully complied and dragged an honest man, recipient of over 20 Honorary Degrees, a Korean War era veteran, the longest serving Senate President in Massachusetts History without a blemish on his record . . .never to this day charged or prosecuted for a misdemeanor . . .and then when Congress clears him of any wrongdoing (You can see the FED PROSECUTORS’ WETTING THEIR LIPS, WHETTING THEIR APPETITES, HOPING AT LONG LAST THEIR LONG-SOUGHT-AFTER “TARGET” WOULD COMMIT “PERJURY”, , , ,after all that political persecution, Governor Romney piles on and demands he resign as President of U.Mass and the Globe’s op-ed lead columnist, to his everlasting shame, writes that Bill Bulger should be SHUNNED. Let’s not mention Howie Cur Carr’s 40 year jihad against Bill Bulger, nor his scurrilous books, the work of a sadist who enjoys inflicting pain on others . . .other than to say, I read The Brothers’ Bulger . . .Carr lacks the heart,, soul and mind of a Dostoevsky . .the nerve of him to mimic that great work, the Brothers Karamazov, which I read, too . .read the Grand Inquisitor chapter again . . .and after fininishing Carr’s book which purported to show how both brothers “terrorized Boston” I realized he hadn’t pointed to one misdemeanor which Bill Bulger had committed.

But there it is: THE MUDSLINGERS AT THE GLOBE AND HOWIE CARR, THE YELLOW DOG JOURNALIST, THE CUR, MR. SMEAR, MR. SCHADENFREUDE hurls mud, nobody counters him, and innocent persons end up being persecuted by Governments.

Let’s not go back to the cheerleading and perhaps worse the silence of so many luminaries when the Veterans who ran the St. Pat’s Parade were being persecuted and pilloried, their houses in hock to pay legal fees to speak freely on the streets of Boston and let’s not go back to the Globe’s and others’ complicity in that fiasco or the forced busing fiasco . .

You get my drift . . .it begins with the bully, the mudslinger . . .hurtful, sadistic men like Howie Carr . . .

And yes, I know he has his good points, and perhaps is a good husband and father, a good family man, good in his community, serving on local boards, and all, and I admit on many socio-political issues we agree . . .but I also know the harm he has intentionally done to many good people and the hurt he has knowingly inflicted on many innocent families, defenseless people, and I know he mocks the dead and dying . . . .and he befriends serial killers and laughs out loud with them . . .”Hey, Johnny” he jocularly shouts to his pal, the serial killer . . .

    1. So, does this mean Carr is off your Holiday Card list?

Since we are in a venting mood, I would like to suggest that when Trump dies they put earplugs in cause its gonna sound like fucking Riverdance up there.

    2. Bill:

Trump Lashes Out at Cohen, Suggests ‘Flipping’ Should Be Illegal

    By Steve Neavling
    Ticklethewire.com

President Trump on Wednesday harshly criticized his former lawyer Michael Cohen for “flipping” on him by implicating Trump in a campaign finance scheme after pleading guilty to eight federal crimes, including tax evasion and bank fraud.

“It’s called ‘flipping,’ Trump said, “and it almost ought to be illegal.”

“I know all about flipping,” the president added in his interview with “Fox & Friends” host Ainsley Earhardt. “For 30, 40 years, I’ve been watching flippers.”

But Trump in the past has actually cooperated with law enforcement. In the 1980s, in order to avoid prosecution, Trump reportedly testified in a tax-evasion scheme and offered to place undercover FBI agents in his Atlantic City casinos.

  26. An added historical note: but first this: “All that is necessary for Evil to triumph is for good people to do and say nothing.”

The lesson from the past is we got to nip these things in the bud. Whether they spring from the Left or Right, from the Commies, Antifa, Nazis or KKK . . . we got to confront the bullies from the get go.

Now the history. Thomas Sowell said the death rate aboard the Coffin Ships in the worst years of flight from the Great Famine, 1846-49, was between 15% and 20%, a rate that equalled the death rate on the slave ships at the height of the slave trade 150-200 years earlier.

Also appalling was the infant mortality rate and death rate among young and old alike who upon landing in America, like most of our ancestors, were crowded into hovels and slums from Nova Scotia to New York City. Antibiotics were available until just before WWII and the death rate from infectious diseases among many emigrants fleeing their homelands, voluntarily or forcibly, was staggering.

We must confront those who would abuse State Power or selectively single out some for stigmatization/persecution/prosecution or who would incite hatred against groups
. . .I count many journalists in the category of those we should speak out against . . .too often group think captivates the Main Stream Media and honorable men are singled out for scorn by the likes of Howie Carr and Kevin Cullen, and their buddies in the MSM will not criticize them . . . .it’s the analogous case of the FEDs protecting the FEDs, or Prosecutors protecting their fellow PERSECUTORIAL POWER ABUSING PROSECUTORS . . .it’s the “old boy network” protecting themselves against the Common Good . . .and journalists are particularly prone to to it.

How many in the MSM have criticized the chronic character assassin, mudslinger Howie Carr, Mr. Smear, Mr. Schadenfreude?

The MSM, including noted REPORTERS and op-editorialists for the NYT, Wash Post, Boston Globe, Wall Street Journal, Patriot Ledger, etc, are SILENT in the face of his Chronic INFAMIES. Few and far between stand up, as in the book RICO by two retired FBI agents which accuses Carr of maligning and railroading H. Paul Rico.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do and say nothing.

Howie Carr has maliciously smeared too many good people, hurting them and their families, . . .and his cohorts in the MSM condone his iniquities by their silent acquisence . . .they swoon on his talk show . . .they get their 10 minutes of fame, before he begins his “Death Pool” or begins playing his Mexican-American music before he stereotypes an entire ethnic group of some 30 million Americans or before he singles out a conservative from South Boston to pillory or a member of the Kennedy Family to insult.

Stand up to the character assassins, the bullies, the mudslingers! Don’t let them get away with it. The wolves in sheep’s clothing who begin their attacks with a wisecrack, a howl and a cackle. They’re not funny. They’re malicious.

Don Rickles was funny . . .he had a heart of gold . . .he was never malicious as he tore all to shreds on stage . . .in real life he was a prince, a courageous WWII Vet and stand up comedian.

Howie Carr is not funny. Throughout his career, he’s been hurtful.

‘It’s definitely intimidation’: police accused over raids on activist’s family

  28. Abe: According to Goldhagen, in the early stages of the Holocaust the majority of the killing was not done by SS units. The guys behind the machine-guns, and, rifles, were rear echelon police reservists who had been called up from German civilian law enforcement organizations. The bloody work was so demoralizing for these German policemen that many committed suicide. The psychological price for murdering Jews, one-by-one, bullet-by-bullet, was too much for minds of the shooters. At the Wannsee Conference 1942, a cost saving strategy for industrial-scale impersonal murder provided the rationale for the development of mass occupancy gas chambers. After Wansee, Himmler took complete control of the genocide. He was discouraged by the effects wanton low-tech massacre had had on the participating policemen. The SS built the death camps to make executions guilt free for the executioners.

    1. “The bloody work was so demoralizing for these German policemen that many committed suicide.”

That fact is not surprising, Khalid. After all, somewhere between 20 and 30 US Military Veterans commit suicide every day in this country. And our Vets didn’t even have to kill innocent people. Did they?

“The SS built the death camps to make executions guilt free for the executioners.”

I don’t agree with that. Maybe in some small part, but people dying by their own hand, no matter who they were, probably didn’t raise many eyebrows in Nazi Germany.

You seem to be using a lot fewer commas these days, Khalid. What, did they go up in price or something?

      1. Abe: No, actually, the Nazi regime considered it a serious morale problem. It wasn’t Jews killing themselves, it was the Aryan Volk, the “silent majority” of Hitler’s tyranny, that couldn’t bear the weight of its’ deeds; morale issues resulted in the shifting of genocidal activities from the Wehrmacht reserve echelons to the SS einsaztsgruppen units (Goldhagen.)

Tad, pipe up! I know you’re an expert on these things.

        1. You missed my point. That’s OK. I got cooked working outside today. I’m dain bramaged. Can’t think. Soaked through four shirts. I feel like I’ve been turned into a stick of gefilte jerky.

    Greetings all,

ThMickis Wednesday’s teleconference features an exciting double-header you won’t want to miss!

First on the bill is Mick Harrison, CEO of the Lawyers for 9/11 Inquiry. He’ll share with us his own insights into the Deep State, and also bring us up to speed on the latest developments in the all-important campaign for a Grand Jury Petition to investigate 9/11. Barbara Honegger, a member of the Committee, will be on hand to introduce him.

We’re also honored to welcome back Professor Anthony (Tony) Hall. Tony’s battle with Zionist-instigated forces has caused him endless trouble at the University of Lethbridge (Alberta. Canada), where he holds his professorship. His need to fully attend to this all-consuming struggle means he has been greatly missed on False Flag Weekly News, which he has long co-hosted with the illustrious Kevin Barrett, PhD. This beleaguered academic will give us the latest skinny on his hard-fought struggle for academic freedom against the usual suspects.

Barbara Honegger will then brief us on plans for upcoming 9/11 anniversary events in New York City (and related).

Finally, pursuant to his reply to Craig McKee’s request for a retraction from him last teleconference, Wayne Coste will have the opportunity offer proof to support his allegation that Craig McKee ” ‘frequently apologized’ on the teleconference for ‘not having any evidence’ to support his position that no 757 hit the Pentagon on 9/11.”

As always, we’ll reserve time for your announcements.

Please join us Wednesday night for these latest currents in the Truth movement!

    Peace,
    Ken Freeland
    Cheryl Curtiss
    Craig McKee

    1. See my post above that I just answered to Khalid. I mentioned the book A Problem From Hell. It covers the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turks.

  30. John, I felt you were a professor of English at some Boston area college/university . . .I was disappointed a bit (disappointed in a feelings sort of way) to see you finally fess up and self-identify as a lawyer . . .Remember, anything you write can and will be held against you in a court of law . . .signed under the pains and penalties of perjury, Billy C.

  31. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law . . .that’s the American Way . . .and the courts are not presumed to be biased and the prosecutors not persecutorial abusers of power politically motivated or otherwise pettily motivated . . . .

Albert Schweitzer, with his MD degree and the equivalent of two Ph.D.s in philosophy and theology and his skills as an organ builder, a classical organist, a classical musician, took his medical bag, his upright piano, his wife and daughter when he was in his mid-thirties and moved to EQUATORIAL AFRICA where he spent the rest of his life administering to the poorest of the poor and developing his philosophy: REVERENCE FOR LIFE

He, Bach, Beethoven typify the good Germanic Folk whom the NAZIs corrupted and Satanized. No worse horror in history than the Hollocaust, the deliberate systematic execution of over six million innocent Jewish civilians, the extermination of one third of the world’s Jewish population . . . yet we’ve seen other horrors; Stalin’s systemic starvation of millions of Ukrainians in the early 1930s; Mao’s starvation and executions of millions; and the GREAT FAMINE in Ireland where 15% of the population died from starvation and Famine’s ever attendant nemesis Disease, and another 15% fled the country reducing Ireland’s population from 8.5 million to about 5 million within 5 to 10 years, from 1846-51, especially, and emigration continued for another decade or more. British policies mandated food continued to be exported from Ireland during the Famine . . .laissez faire capitalism, works best, was said . . . and shiploads of food from generous Yankees in New England was left rotting dockside in harbors of Cork . . .bureaucratic bungling . . .the Potato Famine struck all of Europe . . .only Ireland experienced Famine, because Cromwell in 1650 drove the Irish Catholics to Western Ireland to die . . . To Hell or Connaught . . .but the miraculous introduction of the potato saved them from starvation in the 17th century . . .in subsequent centuries, British Landlords took vegetables and grains as payments for rent from farmers, leaving the farmers’ families mainly the potato to subsist on . . .

The point is Horrors perpetuated and unalleviated by Governments are not new in the World

The point also is the world needs more of men like Albert Schweitzer who pick up their bags and do something positive and less of the stone-age stone-throwers and less of modernity’s Mao-ists, Stalinists, Neo-Nazis, NeoCons, War Mongers, Rumor Mongers, Character Assassins . . .isn’t that where it all begins, with the forked tongue, the pointed finger, the snob’s snub, the looking down on others who are different . . .the hateful innuendos about those people from South Boston . . .the Irish . . . .We at the Boston Globe are better than them . . .we who support Liberalism and Hillaryism are better than Fly Over Americans, the Deplorables, the one-third of illiterati who voted for Trump in Massachusetts . . .

Give me the Albert Schweitzers and Jimmy Kanes any day of the week . . .folks who help others, folks who stand up against the bullies and character assassins and mud slingers, folks who stand up against the likes of Howie Carr and Kevin Cullen and Fred Wyshak and Prosecutorial Abusers and ethically challenged legal luminaries and literati of all stripes . . .

“Give me ten men who are stout hearted men and I’ll soon give you ten-thousand more . . .”

Give me the men who landed at D-Day (one-third of them Americans of German descent) and give me the doctors, nurses, social workers and teachers who work in the projects, inner cities, Appalachia, along the Rio Grande and who volunteer for service in Guatemala, every year, like my friend Rachel, an RN grad from BC.

    Let’s defeat the haters . . .Let’s Rock & Roll . . .Let’s Dance . . . .

I gotta hit the keyboards, hit the gym, then take a walk downtown . . .football season begins today with U.Mass playing Duquesne . . .

    What a great country

    God bless America!

    1. Yes – a great country

and yes – God Bless America!

and yes on the rest, including innocent until proven guilty

  32. DID WE JUST SEND KRIS KRINGLE BACK TO GERNANY ? OR WERE WE FOOLED AGAIN ?

Deprogramming protocol ( phrase repetition ) : No, We did not send Santa Claus back to Germany …. Etc.

Matt , I am starting to genuinely enjoy your Mad Magazine approach to issues such as deporting friend Palij. Of course you are not joking when you adopt such zany positions, and yet it seems as if you …. Must …. be joking.

On Doenitz On Blitzkrieg On Panzer and Stuka ….

  33. Funny … Mengele and Paulif …. Each at opposite ends of a spectrum. Mengele, his dad a rich industrialist, was the apotheosis of all that Western Society ( read: “civilized” Society) considers laudable. He was a distinguished academic, doctor, and researcher before his tour in the concentration camps. In many respects he was a tourist. Paulif was a product of much different social circumstances. He was a bumpkin, in Matt’s account, who was in the wrong prison camp at the wrong time. So to say .

Were Mengele and Palif as imprisoned by circumstances as their charges ?!?

    Historical tourists … Not…. Actors ?!?

NOTHING TO SEE HERE ANYMORE FOLKS, MOVE ALONG !!!

    1. You’re in the wrong business, John. You should work for Hallmark writing holiday cards.

“On Shlomo, On Moishe, On Mendel and Sheldon!”

      1. Yep, I love the Chosen People and in that past have been suspected to be one of the Chosen People , by the Chosen People. Jew know something, Abe, they have historically been very good to Old Jack.

        L’CHAIM

  34. WHY THE NUREMBERG TRIALS ?

C’mon, Dr. Joey Mengele did not join the Nazi Party until 1937 and before that he did all that ground breaking cleft palate research at University.

Each of these historical villains needs to be …. Re-Interpreted ( read: re-invented ) by our lazy modern historians. Like Matt says :

HE WAS A GOOD BOY !!!

  35. What’s the fuss ?!?

MATT’S NAZI PRISON GUARD DEFENSE FUND FOR THE MANIPULATED,MISGUIDED, AND MISUNDERSTOOD FRITZIES : GO ” BUND” ME .

Yes, The Eastern Front was full of exploited Nazis …. Forced …. to rape, defile, murder, and pillage.

    SHALOM

  36. Our friends the Saudis just bombed a bus full of ten year old boys in Yemen killing 50. Shouldn’t we focus on present day war crimes instead of debatable misconduct 70 years ago. These are allegations not proven facts. Stale, decades old accusations are worthless unless framing innocent FBI agents. Drain the swamp and hold current war criminals to account. 2. One can drink the NYT’s and Globe’s cool aid or the internet’s. Choose your poison.

    1. “Our friends the Saudis just bombed a bus full of ten year old boys in Yemen killing 50. Shouldn’t we focus on present day war crimes instead of debatable misconduct 70 years ago.”

      My point exactly, nc.

      1. Be careful… A school bus in supposedly a war zone? On the way to summer camp? (Grew upon the South Shore in a solid middle-class working family… wonderful but neither my four brothers or I were sent to summer camp yet in that poor war tourn country 50 kids allegedly were.) ‘Course I feel for the kids …but what camp? Where? Remember as the jews have always “We use or weapons to protect our children our enemies use their children to protect their weapons.” Where the hell are the reporters!

    2. Wa-llahi!

NC, I’m all for that. Let’s start by prosecuting Glorious Leader and his family.

  37. Who are we to disagree? We are individual American Citizens who kowtow to no one and who genuflect to no secular authorities. We make our own minds up. We question all authorities.

    This reminds me of Orwell’s 1984 or Camus’ The Stranger . . . .

If all those authorities told us there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq or that Libya must be bombed or that we must impose a boycott on Iraq which will kill by starvation 650,000 children or we must forcibly separate Kosovo from Serbia or we must persecute innocent FBI agents as “rogues” to protect the integrity of the DOJ and FBI and to mitigate damage awards against the government, must we concur?

How many times in our brief lifetimes have ALL EXPERTS, ALL THE GURUS BEEN PROVEN WRONG?

Matt is 100% correct here, as is Abe, in questioning the hunting down of an 18 year old who at the point of a gun, obviously, was made a PRISON GUARD or gate guard. If, as Matt, writes, we are to punish all who cooperate with the NAZIs, the Japanese, the invading North-Koreans, the North-Vietnamese Communists, etc, our hunting down of innocent civilians, soldiers and gate guards would never end.

This is Orwellian stuff: Governments singling out innocent folks (gate gaurds) to make a point: FOR PROPAGANDA PURPOSES. It was a prison, you shout, a Nazi Prison, so all who worked at Nazi Prisons, Japanese Prisons, Communist Prisons, British Prisons were atrocities were committed should be hunted down . .guards, cooks, janitors, accountants . . .or only those who cursed at inmates, or hit them, or murdered them . . .or only those over 21 years of age who volunteered to be cooks, gate guards, accountants . . .

Perhaps, one day, the Rightists will go after Gate Guards at those anti-life, value-phobic Abortion Mills or one day the Leftists will go after Gate Guards at Jesuit Colleges who helped promote that homophobic antithetical anti-secular-humanistic Jesuitical Philosophies. And Both Sides will cite the hunting down of “Nazis” as Precedent.

Unless you’ve got eyewitness accounts of this 95 year old man committing murders, or photographs or fingerprints of him doing so, or some very compelling circumstantial evidence of him murdering someone, we must not forget we have concepts like equal justice and due process and fairness and legalistic notions like statues of limitations that are supposed to apply to all of us, EQUALLY . . .we don’t single out former gate guards at prisons in Northern Ireland where inmates starved to death and hold them accountable for deaths or atrocities . . .

    1. Bill C, you raise a good point.

During WWI, people in the US killed dachsunds – because they were obviously “helping Germany.”

During WWII, Japanese Americans were put in internment camps, as is well known – obviously, because they were “helping Japan.”

This prison guard “is said to be indispensable in the death of thousands.”

      What???????????

        1. during World War I, there was a slaughter of German breed dogs as part of anti-German World War I hysteria

In Steinbeck’s “East of Eden,” which takes place during World War I, a German resident is attacked by townfolk as part of anti-German World War I hysteria.

          No, not Palif

          1. Right, and I think Executive Orders #2526 and #2527 , signed by Roosevelt ,WWII,as part of the Enemy Alien Control Program to deport ” enemy ” aliens resulted in 900,000 Italian Americans being grabbed and deported, and loads more. What’s with the dachshunds ?

Treating dogs like people and people like dogs is the vogue these days, but you need to be reminded that Palij is alleged to have killed thousands of people, not dogs !

Get off your high dachshund !!!

Mild sarcasm is not your strong suit apparently. Generally you are pretty damn sharp. Equating dachshunds and dead people is not the best launching place for any argument .

        2. John King McDonald

Noone was equating dogs and humans.

However, recently there was a cartoon showing a bunch of dogs demonstrating in front of the White House. They were upset that Trump had called Omascroosa or Amaretto or whatever her name is a dog. And rightly so – that is an insult to dogs.

Will Rogers said that if there is no heaven, he wants to go where dogs go.

The point was the illogical decisions that are made via mass hysteria.

And, as Bill C points out – innocent until proven guilty.

John Demjanjuk was deported to be put on trial in Israel, based on falsified evidence by the US government, as “Ivan the Terrible,” with lots of hysteria coming from certain quarters. The government attorneys were sanctioned in that case. It took an Israeli court to determine that he was not “Ivan the Terrible.”

Friends of Bill W (I am not one, but it is a great program) have a phrase – “contempt before investigation.”

That’s a good thing to remember, especially when dealing with unnamed sources – “it is said” – claiming that Palif was “indispensable” in “killing thousands.”

          1. Tough argument to carry. The concept that taking orders grants one moral exemption was exposed at Nuremberg during the War Crimes Trials. Palij may plead, understandably, for slack because he was pressed into Bill’s ” guard -gater ” duty or whatever. For certainly we are now expected to winnow the weak from the chaps ( sic ) when singing our Dachau Duty List blues. Viktor Frankl in MANS SEARCH FOR MEANING describes the Concentration Camp living death quite fully. He survived by ( he was a psychiatrist in Vienna before the war) getting inside the head of the savage Kapo leading the daily work detail outside of the camp that Frankl was assigned to . The Kapos were basically trustees with truncheons, prisoners of different ethnicities though Ukrainians, Latvians and Poles seemed to enjoy the extra clothing, rations, status, and the license to lay about them left and right with that truncheon. Unfortunately, fellow Jews were Kapos in the majority.

Was Palij one of these ?

Yes, chiding Bill for wearing his FREE PALIJ hat aside , his point is a sterling one that Palij deserves a fair hearing. However he does not distinguish between Military Court and Civilian Court . The game is different. The rules are different.

Dapper O’Neill had a great expression that Bill. C.’s favorite columnist, a ” Dapper Guy,” reprised recently :

            ” THEY DON’T ARREST YOU FOR NUTHIN’ !!! “

        3. John King McDonald

I really don’t know what you are trying to prove, and being flippant is certainly not appropriate here.

Demjanjuk was accused of being Ivan the Terrible, based on false evidence which was carried by US prosecutors against him. They even conducted surveillance video operations against him in Parma Ohio, tracking his every move. I’ve seen those surveillance tapes. The evidence was false, and the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals sanctioned the government attorneys. As I said, an Israeli court found that he was not Ivan the Terrible, and he was in peril of losing his life for being falsely accused.

As it turns out, there were Ukrainians put into concentration camps, including the most feared and famous boogey man for sovoks – Bandera. Sachsenhausen. You don’t know who Bandera was, and neither do 100 percent of Americans – but sovoks used him as propaganda.

For your information, it was a Jew, Lazar Kaganovich, who was the chief executioner of Ukrainians via Sralin’s artificial famine, the Holodomor, and that particular episode was staffed in senior positions by many, many Jews.

Yet – no reparations for Ukrainians.

I know an older gentleman who was a “double winner” – he was a survivor of the Holodomor, and a survivor of Nazi forced labor.

He received reparations for the forced Nazi labor. I helped him. Not so for the Holodomor.

Again – I don’t know what your point is.

          1. Elmer:

I am familiar with the Holomodor. I know a guy who killed a pimp who was terrifying a Ukrainian American the guy kept an eye on. Is that flippant ? What is your point ! My noting that there were a disproportionate number of Ukrainians that the Nazis used in the camps, whatever the reasons, is just that. In noting a historical fact I am not slandering a people, Ukrainians, who have had quite the tough sled.

Elmer, you seem to be keeping a scorecard. I am not. Your comments about Demanjuk and dachshunds were read by me and I find it no more flippant to juxtapose Demanjuk and dachshunds than you , by conversational implicature , did in equating dead Jews, Ukrainians, Poles, Russians and a host of others lost in the camps, to … dachshunds.

As to flippancy …let me just flip it back to you . I note only that your friend who survived both of those events must be one tough fucking monkey .

          2. Elmer:

Really, what is the point. I wrote about Malcolm Muggeridge , a person I am sure that you and 100% of Americans who have no knowledge of the genocide of Irish, Jews, Ukrainians, Armenians in particular, have never heard of ; or maybe not 100%, Elmer.

In CHRONICLES OF WASTED TIME he doggedly reports the Holomodor atrocities, people in fields famished for food, people dying on large scale, and he denounces Walter Duranty. Duranty was the NYT’S Stalin fanboy and Potemkin Village propagandist who carried water for the corrupt Soviet nightmare State for years.

            You missed all that .

Your question … Why not reparations for the Holomodor survivors …. is an interesting one. Its philosophical underpinnings seem to be something along the lines of … Hey, these damn Jews have a PR machine to beat all when it comes to … Reparations. Why are they exalted and why is their suffering exalted over the suffering of others? What is the difference between the Holomodor and the Holocaust ?

Your question presupposes that there is a difference.

Only you, Elmer, can answer … That… Question !

    2. The lion does not lie down with the lamb. However plaintive the lamb’s bleatings about peace, love. Justice, equal opportunity under the law and the right to a fair trial for all Nazi …. Dreamers …. who were co-opted into the SS and into all the other conscience stricken corps of noble Germans.

      Weird times !!!

    3. Bill :

Your dithyramb to the diligent duty driven humans, each with a divine nature, who drove the human cattle in and out of their pens and to the slaughterhouse is duly noted.

Once defiled, degraded, and dispensed with as ” Cattle ” it is simple to understand that in the eyes of the world peopled by the frontrunners , those who always want to be … More than cattle, but clearly always less than the misunderstood and maligned noble Nazis who were … Forced… by every circumstance since birth onward to realize their destinies in such horrific detention of their fellow creatures.

Oh, The Humanity … Your Honor !!!

Yes, your Honor …. I am a member of the bar. It says so on my resume.

When people show you who they are, remember it !!! MAYA ANGELOU

      1. *Once defiled, degraded and dispensed with as Cattle it is simple to understand that we see through the eyes of the World peopled by the frontrunners. These who always want to be more than cattle …but less than the maligned and misunderstood Nazi prison guards who were … Forced … by every circumstance since birth, to realize their destinies in the horrific detention of their fellow creatures.

    4. wa-llahi! Former warders at the Maze, and, other British prisons, where volunteers were held, continue to be legitimate targets for assassination in the Six Counties. There’s still a war going on for some.

    5. Wa-llahi! The Nazis were fiends for paperwork. The paper trail is what snagged escaping Nazis. The police ministries had expanding archives of info about everyone in the Reich, particularly, those employed in the security apparatuses It was difficult for death camp guards to get out from under a security file replete with pictures, and, finger-prints, including, cross references designed to test the validity of a file. The Germans worshiped paper. The security organs depended on it.
Immediately after the Nazi surrender, the Allies began screening the German DP population, sifting through the throngs refugees, for war criminals hiding in the shuffling crowds. Allied Investigators/interrogators used the Nazis’ own voluminous bureaucratic files to trick them out of their disguises.

  38. Right-wing fascist Poles, and, Ukrainians, often assisted the Nazis in their crimes. The majority of the death camps were located on Polish territory. The man being deported may well have worked at a camp, and/or, assisted in the round ups of Jews. The truth will come out in the evidence.

    1. Jew were not rounded up by Polish teenagers. They were rounded up by the SS.

Hitchen’s Razor all the way on this one.

      1. Abe: “Hitler’s Willing Executioners” is a great read. Military age Poles, Ukrainians, and, Lithuanians, of fascist bent did participate in the holocaust. They both worked in the camps, and, participated in the mass executions by shooting. The Ukrainians were avid students of Nazi industrial murder. They used what they had learned from the Germans to massacre the Poles.

I’ll dig the book out of the barn, and, send you the specific passages. It’s author, Daniel Goldhagen, is a tenured History professor at Harvard. The boo traces the development of the anti-Semetic thinking that led to Showa. A lot of ordinary people participated in killing Jews. For many, it was greed that inspired their envy. Once the Jews were rounded up, they could be despoiled of their goods and properties.

        1. I will check out Goldhagen book. Trawniki Men were brought up by John in a later post in these comments. I grew up surrounded by Irish Catholics and camp survivors. I knew all about the two genocides, that of Irish Catholics and European Jews. And remember, millions of non-Jews were murdered by the Nazis.

A book you might want to take a look at is A Problem From Hell, America And The Age Of Genocide by Samantha Power. It asks the question; Why cant we stop genocides? It covers those events in the 20th Century. It begins with the Turkish extermination of Armenians and ends with several somewhat overlapping purges that closed the century.

I found an amazing little 80 page booklet in a junk shop in Cape May last year called What Was It Like In The Concentration Camp At Dachau? It was written around 1960 by Dr. Johann Neuhausler, the Auxiliary Bishop of Munich. It could be titled A Day In The Life Of Dachau. It goes into great detail about every aspect of being a prisoner in a camp. The blend of absolutely normal and mundane features of daily life and the sudden explosions of savage brutality are hard to wrap your head around.

          1. In 1968, my younger brother and I visited Dachau. It stilled the soul. It was horrifying. Words cannot do justice to the depths of evil . . .man’s grotesque cruelty, man’s inhumanity to man . . .satanic …

    2. Khalid:

You don’t assist if you are forced to at the end of a gun. The better word is compelled. The camps were located on Polish territory by the Nazi SS not the Poles. Are you suggesting that if the man had no choice and was forced to worked at a camp he should be labeled a Nazi criminal and that we should then wait for some time in the future to see if some evidence will come out to show that. Seems you got the cart before the horse.

      1. wa-llahi! I have no idea how that guy’s case will pan out. My point is that there were many eastern European fascists willingly participating in the Holocaust. Was the accused one of them? Only the evidence can answer that question.

      1. Fox News had a story on this as well – now what?

        http://insider.foxnews.com/2018/08/22/last-nazi-us-deported-germany-ny-dem-calls-out-democrats-opposing-ice

A Democratic New York assemblyman called out his fellow Democrats Wednesday on “Fox & Friends” for opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after the agency deported the last known Nazi living in the United States.

Dov Hikind called the deportation of Jakiw Palij to Germany “huge” and had been pushing the move for more than a decade.

Palij, 95, was apprehended early Tuesday morning at his home in Queens, New York.

He is said to have played an “indispensable role” in the death of thousands of Jews during the Holocaust.

  39. Your Trump Derangement Syndrome is showing .

You defend a man who was a prison guard at a concentration camp to show your dislike of the current president .

The guard is the victim now ?

    Death before dishonor.

    1. “Your Trump Derangement Syndrome is showing .”

That may be true. I’m not judging Trump at all on this one. He can use this act any way he wants as can Matt. I just think that Palif is, like a million other things, being used as a point of contention or praise for Trump. Its pathetic. It has nothing to do about the issues that should be of concern.

  40. I think his deportation has no merit. I don’t know the particulars but his working in a camp doesn’t qualify him as a war criminal. Would the judges at Nuremburg have found him guilty? No. I’m sure Palif was not a Nazi.

As many here know Max Schmeling never joined the Nazi Party. He was a paratrooper in the Luftwaffe. So who is more guilty of a crime? A teen that is forced to work in a camp or a paratrooper that is fighting for the cause of Hitler’s dreams?

I know quite a bit about the Lodz Ghetto. At an estate sale in Bethesda I found 279 Agfa 35mm slides that were taken by Walter Genewein. He was an accountant for the Gestapo and when it was discovered that he was a photographer the Gestapo had him take propaganda photos in Lodz. His photos are well known. What I found were his throw-aways. The pictures that did not show happy Jews, rather the pictures that were taken immediately before or after some of the ones the Nazis used for propaganda. (All of these slides are in the Holocaust Museum in Washington now)

The commandant of the ghetto, Hans Biebow, was captured and tried for war crimes, found guilty and was hung in 1947. Genewein was also tried but was released. He was an accountant and photographer. Not a war criminal.

    1. Honest:

No one doubts the horrors of the concentration camps. Your example of Genewein is of note because he was forced to be involved in the Nazi propaganda efforts abetting the Nazis. But those who tried him knew the difference between those who committed the horrors and those who were forced to assist them.
