Some groups never accepted the calendar named after Pope Gregory XIII, who introduced it in October 1582. This has resulted in Easter being celebrated on different Sundays. Far back In 325 A.D. the Council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. From that point forward, the Easter date depended on the ecclesiastical approximation of March 21 for the vernal equinox.
Currently the Gregorian Calendar is thirteen days ahead of the Julian Calendar. Beginning on 14 Mar 2100 (29 Feb 2100 Julian), the difference will be fourteen days but few of us will see that change. By moving March 21 up 13 days the first full moon may occur somewhat earlier and Easter will be celebrated differently.
On my Easter last Sunday circumstances made me unable to post. Had I been in a position to do so then this essay by Samuel Ullman would have been posted. So to keep with the spirit of the time I appropriate my wife’s Easter to publish it which seems fitting for this time of year which is one of renewal and reflection.
Youth
Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind;it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, for adventure over love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.
Years may wrinkle the skin, bu to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.
Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing childlike appetite for what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young.
When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at 80.

Another member of the dreaded Cornpopper Gang of Savin Hill who should be mentioned is Jimmy Eugley, the strongest 150 pound man I’ve ever known. Jimmy used to hang from a pole in front of a store on Savin Hill Avenue, for an hour or two, just for fun, just for exercise. If you fought Jimmy, and he got his hand on your wrist, you lost. You could not break his incredibly strong grasp, then he’d get you in a headlock or a leg lock around your waist and squeeze the life out of you. When he first went into the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War Years, he got in a fight with the head of a Chicago Gang, and they fought to a draw, after battling for over an hour. Jimmy, like Billy Jenkins a very tough heavyweight, would Never Quit . . .they were INDEFATIGABLE in street fights . . .they just kept on coming . . .

It was my lifelong friend from Savin Hill, Bill McMahan who introduced me to the world of art, to Georgia O’Keefe, Pop Art ala Andy Warhol(a), stabiles, mobiles, and the term/concept VISUALIST. Bill started art school, Mass School of Art in Boston, after serving in the Marine Corps as a Sergeant as a machine gunner, too, on the Cambodian Border, in French Plantations, jungles, rivers, and fields of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War . . .Bill McMahan also was a boxer in the Marines and a drill instructor . . .previously he was a three sport athlete captain at Dot High and President of his class, the oldest brother of eight McMahans from Pleasant Street in Savin Hill and one of the crew at our summer’s cottage, DOPE’S INN, on Jenkins Pond in Falmouth during the 1967 SUMMER OF LOVE . . .
those were crazy years, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, as you’d be partying down Cape Cod and five guys would be just back from Vietnam, five would be going over that Autumn, and five would be there . . . .8 million Americans served during the Vietnam War and about 2.5 million served in Vietnam . . .on land, sea, air . . .crazy years . . . Stevie Driscoll, a lifelong friend from Sagamore Street in Savin Hill, did four tours in Southeast Asia as a machine gunner on an Air Force helicopter .. . .Stevie became President of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club, Southern California, Desert Chapter, Atascadero, California . . .he was one of 44 guys who showed up in 2000 for the reunion of the dreaded Savin Hill Cornpoppers Gang . . . .Stevie was unable to make the Savin Hill Reunion in NOvember of 2018 when over 500 neighbors, lifelong friends, family, showed up at the Firemen’s Post in Dorchester . . .

This comment is a non sequitur which I will cut and paste again. I read Muellar’s report quoted the biased, Trump-hating CNN, NYT and Wash Post “200 times” . . . you see how biased Muellar’s team was.
Muellar, a liberal Republican in Bill Weld’s mold, assembled a team of all liberal democrats, three of whom, I’ve read, who actually contributed money to Hillary’s Presidential Campaign, to investigate a conservative Republican President. THE MUELLAR REPORT WAS CORRUPT AB INITIO AND ITS RELIANCE ON CNN, NYT, ETC PROVES ITS IDEOLOGICALLY WARPED BIASES.

MUELLAR’S JOB WAS OVER WHEN HE SUBMITTED THE REPORT . . .instead, lIke Comey abusing power, assuming the job of Attorney General, declaring HIllary not prosecutable even though she was extremely careless (grossly negligent), Muellar abused power and acted ex officio by writing a letter after the report was submitted, giving his further OPINIONS on the matter, a letter that was leaked, that he knew would be leaked, or would be the subject of future inquiry by Congress, the Media, etc . . . .
The point is Muellar like Comey (read Comey’s disgraceful NYT op ed yesterday, where he rides high in the saddle of his white horse, assuming moral superiority, the usurper and abuser of federal power) Muellar like Comey is one of those corrupt individuals who doesn’t know that he is intellectually and morally corrupt. There are many of therm. Especially among the FEDS, fed prosecutors, fed judges, etc.
