Is Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson a Clone of Whitey Bulger?

I heard him say it.  I’m talking about Senator Ron Johnson a Republican from Wisconsin. Really I heard him says:  “What this is all about is further evidence of corruption, more than bias. Corruption of the highest levels of the FBI. The secret society — we have an informant talking about a group that was holding secret meetings off-site.” (my emphasis)

“Wow“, I thought! “The senator has an informant who is aware of the secret society of FBI agents holding secret meetings. This is serious stuff” I’m not interested in learning the identity of the informant. I am interesting in what else he might have told Republican Senator Johnson about these meetings.

So were others I assume for the next day he was asked to tell us more. He said: “I, you know, I have heard, you know, from somebody who has talked to our committee, that there — there is a group of individuals in the FBI that was holding secret, off-site meetings. And you know, again, that Strzok and Page calling it a certain term, I’m just saying, off-site meetings.”

His committee is the Senate Homeland Security Committee. It deals with pretty important stuff. I have to assume Republican Senator Johnson when he says “somebody who has talked to our committee” is speaking about the informant even though he doesn’t call him that. But it seems it is now a little less clear what Johnson is talking about.  He seems to have dropped the idea the meetings were secret just saying they were “off-site meetings.”

All right, I’m wondering, what either the informant or the somebody, if he’s different, was telling you about these meetings, secret or not. Tell us what was he telling you about them? We all have meetings “off-site” and out of our offices. It is not the meetings that are important. It is what the meetings are about that is. Weren’t some people talking about an anti-Trump coup? Were these meetings part of it. What was said about their purpose? Did the informant attend any. If so, what was said? Aren’t we entitled to know that?

The day following Republican Johnson was asked whether the whole idea of a secret society was a joke. He answered: “It’s a real possibility.”

What happened to the informant? Johnson’s no novice. He’s been a Republican senator since 2011. He is the chairman of an important committee. Yet, it seems he made up a story about having an “informant talking about a group” who have had meetings, yes, that’s plural, more than one. Why?

Why would a US senator make up a story that reflects negatively on the FBI? Why is he so intent on injuring the reputation of the FBI by saying there is “corruption at the highest level” and then referring to a nonexistent informant who he made up out of whole cloth to justify his attack on the FBI?

Do you like the idea of a US Senator trying to impugn the integrity of the FBI based on lies? Don’t  you see how it fits the pattern I mentioned the other day of attacking the investigators?

Remember the tactics used by Whitey Bulger the sordid crime boss during his trial. We were not supposed to look at the many murders and other crimes he committed but at the Department of Justice (DOJ) for not having caught him sooner. His defense was absurd. The DOJ knew he committed the crimes and did nothing about it so that was supposed to support his imagined story that the DOJ (in the person of Jeremiah O’Sullivan) authorized him to commit the crimes and promised it would do nothing about them.  He missed a major link in the chain by being unable to show the DOJ had knowledge of his crimes.

Senator Ron Johnson is another Whitey Bulger attacking the investigators. He’s ready to attack the FBI (for the purpose of discrediting its investigation of Trump) but like Whitey he’s missing a big link. He never tells us what the secret society or off-site meetings were about. Like Whitey hoping the jurors were stupid Republican Johnson is hoping those hearing his Whitey-type nonsense are stupid.

FBI Accused—Again—of Cover-Up in DB Cooper Skyjacker Case

        see link for full story

An artist made these sketches of the skyjacker known as Dan Cooper from the recollections of the passengers and crew of a Northwest Airlines jet he hijacked between Portland and Seattle on Thanksgiving eve in 1971. Photo: AP)
Maybe you haven’t heard, but the FBI is taking a lot of shit today over a certain memo. (It’s been in the news a little.) But it turns out House Republicans aren’t the only ones who have a bone to pick with America’s top lawdogs.

At a press conference outside the FBI’s headquarters on Thursday, a team of independent researchers openly accused the bureau of covering up evidence in the D.B. Cooper case. The identity of the infamous criminal, who skyjacked a Boeing 727 in 1971, remains unknown, and the researchers claim the FBI actually prefers it that way.

The New York Daily News reports that Tom Colbert, a documentary filmmaker who leads the researcher, accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation of covering up for the skyjacker, who boarded Northwest Orient Flight 305 on November 24, 1971, under the alias Dan Cooper.

This is about current FBI agents stonewalling, covering up, and flat-out lying for mentors and G-men long gone, over decades.
After refueling, the plane took off again with four of the flight’s crew, but about 20 minutes later, Cooper forced everyone into the cockpit and activated the aft door. When the plane finally landed in Nevada two hours later, Cooper was gone.

Colbert and his team have fingered Robert W. Rackstraw, a retired Army paratrooper, as the culprit, and they aren’t the first. Rockstraw first came to the attention of authorities in 1978. He resembled composite sketches, had a criminal record, and due to his Army training was capable of making the jump.

Ultimately, however, no direct evidence was found linking Rackstraw to the crime, and the FBI moved on.

Over the past few years, Colbert’s team has acquired several letters supposedly sent by the master criminal to newspapers in 1971. They say they deciphered several codes in the letter, which allegedly point to Rackstraw’s initials, the Army’s Special Warfare School (where he studied), and another of his military units.

The letters apparently tease both the FBI and the CIA and urge authorities to try to catch him.

During a 2016 lawsuit to acquire the FBI investigation files, Colbert said his team had accumulated more than 100 pieces of evidence pointing to Rackstraw, who became that year the subject of a two-part History Channel series based on the work. (You can peruse what the FBI has released here.)

Colbert has long accused the FBI of ignoring any new evidence. Had the FBI actually captured Cooper 40 years ago, but mistakenly released him, it would certainly be yet another embarrassing chapter in the bureau’s history.

“It’s more than a bunch of old guys chasing another old guy over forgotten history. This is about current FBI agents stonewalling, covering up, and flat-out lying for mentors and G-men long gone, over decades—all because of an unholy deal to hide and protect a valuable CIA Black Ops pilot known as D.B. Cooper,” Colbert reportedly told the Daily News in an email.

New FBI messages reveal agents sought way to evade federal record requirements
        — 02/01/18 02:10 PM EST

DOJ office says it has found missing text messages of FBI agents

There’s an important but little-noticed subtext in the revelations about alleged FBI misconduct in the investigations into Hillary Clinton’s email practices and Donald Trump’s Russia associations.

It’s the light they shine on what has come to be routine obstruction of public records laws by federal officials.

The records that federal agencies generate while in our employ aren’t owned by faceless bureaucrats or political officials who can choose to withhold or disclose at their discretion and convenience. The records are owned by us: the public.

        That includes text messages.

In the past two decades as communications via email, smart phones and social media have grown routine, there’s evidence that federal officials have consciously devised ways to thwart public records laws and keep their communications — our records — secret. Federal officials have used private email accounts, private servers and aliases (not their own name) for public business. They have deleted or lost messages that are supposed to be saved.

And they have learned to use text messaging.

In a new exchange released by the Senate Homeland Security committee today, FBI officials Lisa Page and Peter Strzok seem to discuss this very issue in private texts.
Page: Have a meeting with turgal about getting iphone in a day or so

Strzok: Oh hot damn. . . We get around our security/monitoring issues?

Page: No, he’s proposing that we just stop following them. Apparently the requirement to capture texts came from [Office of Management and Budget], but we’re the only org (I’m told) who is following that rule. His point is, if no one else is doing it why should we. . . I’m told – thought I have seen – that there is an IG report that says everyone is failing. But one has changed anything, so why not just join in the failure.
It’s a shockingly cavalier attitude from an attorney and high level FBI official.

There are more text messages between Strzok and Page from a critical time period, as we now know, that the FBI claimed had been lost in a technical glitch. After that

Faith-based demonstrators at the jetport ask for the national conversation to return to racial injustice

On the eve of the Super Bowl, nearly 100 silent protesters “took a knee” at the Portland International Jetport to call attention to racial injustice and inequality.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the protesters – including many clergy members – held signs and knelt on yoga mats, pillows and the hard floor to take back a message they say has been “hijacked” by the debate over the patriotism of NFL players who kneel during the national anthem.

The protesters, some wearing Patriots gear, lined either side of the jetport between the escalators/stairs and baggage claim, leaving plenty of room for disembarking travelers to walk a kind of prayer gantlet in between them. Signs invited the travelers to join them: “Take a Knee in Prayer,” one read. “Will you take a moment to kneel with us in support of justice & kindness for people of color?”

Holding the sign were Andy and Dorothy Grannell of Portland, who are “veterans of 50 years as a transracial family.”

Voting-machine makers are already worried about Defcon
    ♫•*¨*•.¸¸:*¨¨*: (:-) AAA+++ seller, would hack again (-:) :*¨¨*:.•*¨*•♫♪

Last year, Defcon’s Voting Village made headlines for uncovering massive security issues in America’s electronic voting machines. Unsurprisingly, voting-machine makers are working to prevent a repeat performance at this year’s show.

According to Voting Village organizers, they’re having a tough time getting their hands on machines for white-hat hackers to test at the next Defcon event in Las Vegas (held in August). That’s because voting-machine makers are scrambling to get the machines off eBay and keep them out of the hands of the “good guy” hackers.

Village co-organizer Harri Hursti told attendees at the Shmoocon hacking conference this month they were having a hard time preparing for this year’s show, in part because voting machine manufacturers sent threatening letters to eBay resellers. The intimidating missives told auctioneers that selling the machines is illegal — which is false.

Electronic voting-machine manufacturers — and anyone with a stake in keeping their flaws secret — have oodles of reasons to prevent Defcon’s Voting Village from having a repeat performance of last year’s (perfectly legal) mass hacking of e-vote boxes.

Voting-machine hacking at Defcon isn’t new; the conference has been joyfully cracking voting machines since 2004. The problems with voting-machine security, and the industry’s unwillingness to acknowledge the problems discovered at Defcon, have ensured the voting machine hacking challenge has been coming back year after year.

In fact, the machines are so badly maintained, notoriously backdoored and easily hacked that even Defcon hackers massively stress out in forums and chat spaces about their own local and federal voting process.

As you’d expect, e-vote machine hacking was more popular than ever last year at Defcon.

Voting machines displayed at Defcon’s Voting Village in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 29, 2017.
But 2017’s e-vote hackfest was markedly different because it was officially the first time a large-scale hack of voting machines had occurred (openly, anyway) because the act of hacking them is considered illegal. Not at Defcon’s 2017’s mass e-vote hack-a-palooza: That was thanks to the hard work of law professor Andrea Matwyshyn. She cleared the way for scores of hackers to legally throw everything they had at voting machines for all to see.

Voting-machine makers with anything to hide couldn’t have been happy about that. If you remember the headlines after last year’s Defcon, the results that came out of the Voting Village were beyond problematic. Shocking, even.

Defcon’s hackers breached every single voting machine in the Village. Some in minutes; many in under an hour-and-a-half. E-vote machines were popped by hackers without insider knowledge and by hackers who didn’t even specialize in voting machines.

One attendee remarked on Twitter, “Horrifyingly, some were hacked wirelessly (ie no physical access). Many hadn’t had OS or basic software patches in over a decade.” They added, “Others had been sold off after use, but hadn’t been wiped; still had voter data on them. Didn’t hear of any with any credible audit trail.”

What is fantastic is to suppose that the Bulger/FBI relationship was confined to what you have been allowed to see .

Ego . I have suffered through enough periphrastic literary preenings by strutting Rumpoles of the Bailey in my day , on this blog , to recognize its self-satisfied bloat when I see it .

It is all around us . The Bulger Saga is replete with monstrous egos . From the scribes to the imbibes many have staked their reputations , and freedom in many cases , on pushing forth their version of the truth. Truth be told , the key figure to unlock the Pandora’s Box of crime , collusion , conspiracy and murder is James Bulger.

Ego ? We have not heard from James Bulger’s ” Ego . ” Why did he not testify? … Matt’s notion that Wyshak would have destroyed him on cross is a delusion for another courtroom and another time , when the prosecutor was not as fully aware as the defendant that he really should not ask questions that he did not want answered .

  8. John King McDonald

Sure now and we don’t need the clargy nor the constabulary , nor the king’s horsemen in Boston ( Feds ) to sware sartain’ as to nuttin’ that concerns the Bulger and the FBI ” button . ”

Despite the fine individuals involved .

And with all due respect :

Potboiling crime writers and nonesuch notions of crime scenarios and the scenarios portrayed aside , life is indeed stranger than any fiction . Smug assertions of knowledge divine or corporeal will not save one from the immediate intuition that not all noses were clean , not all sleeves were virtue white , not all paragons were paragons , and not all villains were villains , in Boston , circa ” Whitey . ”

We have not heard James Bulger’s testimony . We wrangle truth with a moderator who , despite a comprehensive knowledge of official malfeasance and a prosecutor’s grasp on real evidence , ignores all facts that do not fit into a fantastic version of the Bulger/FBI relationship .

Fit now onto the Procrustean Bed of the Bulger magical mystery tour of the big hits of the eighties , with John Phillips Sousa in the person of Jeremiah O’ Sullivan wheeling that baton around like God’s Sceptre , we now have some poor bastard Congressman thrown , unashamedly and incredibly , into the mix .

    Par for the course !

  9. It seems as if the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany mirrors the rise of Donald Trump in America. People who are highly ranked government officials are acting in a manner that would have Richard Nixon spinning in his grave. No action taken by law enforcement is considered to extreme in defense of the homeland. The United States of America has since the tragic events of 9/11 morphed into a society which I barely remember.Every person grows up unique, but no person escapes the generation they were born into. Growing in the time of Vietnam, the Pentagon Papers and Watergate , the Federal Government was not known for honesty. To watch Pence behave is like a non sop SNL skit. This Senator Johnson seems beyond words in an era that seems unreal.

  10. Wa-llahi ! If some of these FBI conspirators were Jesuit educated, and, some of the agents went to BYU, what did they share, besides, attending college? I sense the outline of the conspiracy becoming more distinct .

Anybody think last week’s visit by the Russian INTEL heads was just a howdy-do? Glorious Leader begged Putin for a life-preserver, and, he got one. Trump’s got more than firing Mueller on his mind. When he does something extra-constitutional to remain power, as, in, declaring martial law following an attack on North Korea, he’ll have to apply Russian style social controls (GULAG) to tap down dissent.

  11. This is silly. Senator Johnson answered questions that became narrower without reiterating answers to questions asked a day or days beforehand. Example. You ask me about the galaxy we live in. You are told about the its stars one of which is the sun and its planets and their moons. You ask about the sun and get an answer about the planets and their moons. You ask about the earth and are told about this planet and its moon. That last answer does not deny that there are other planets or other stars. or other moons. It reflects the specificity of the question posed.

It is apparent that the upper level of the FBI contained some persons, rogue or not, that thought that they were in a position to thwart the election of Donald Trump. They could have been delusional. It could have been whiskey talking or it could have been serious. It could have been a feint to divert attention from their own serious dereliction of duty in not prosecuting the criminal deeds of the other candidate. It does bear looking into which seems to be all the Senator from Wisconsin has said. The balance is malicious fantasy.

Swatting specks of dust makes grasping at straws possessing gravitas by comparison. But the latter is still meaningless.

    KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON
The Osage Murders and the Birth of the F.B.I.
    By David Grann
    338 pp. Doubleday. $28.95.

In 1804, President Thomas Jefferson hosted a delegation of Osage chiefs who had traveled from their ancestral land, which Jefferson had recently acquired — from the French, not the Osage — in the Louisiana Purchase. The Osage representatives were tall, many of them over six feet, and they towered over most of their White House hosts. Jefferson was impressed, calling them the “finest men we have ever seen.” He promised to treat their tribe fairly, telling them that from then on, “they shall know our nation only as friends and benefactors.”

Over the next 20 years, the Osage were stripped of their land, ceding almost 100 million acres, and were forced onto a parcel in southeastern Kansas that measured about 50 by 125 miles (four million acres). This land would be theirs forever, the United States government told them.

And then — as David Grann details early in his disturbing and riveting new book, “Killers of the Flower Moon” — this promise, too, was broken. White settlers began squatting on Osage territory, skirmishes ensued and eventually the tribe had to sell the land for $1.25 an acre. Looking for a new home, the Osage found an area of what was to become Oklahoma that no one else wanted. It was hilly and unsuited to cultivation. The Osage bought the parcel for roughly a million dollars, later adding a provision that the land’s “oil, gas, coal or other minerals” would be owned by the Osage, too. Thus they owned the land above and whatever was below, as well.

No one argued the point at the time. No one but the Osage knew there was oil under that rocky soil. The Osage leased the land to pro
