CONNOLLY, Matthew Thomas, born in Boston May 1, 1939; deceased in Boston
October 8, 2021. Alumnus of Boston College High School, Boston College, and
Boston College Law School where he was a member of the Industrial and Commercial Law Review from 1964-1966. First Lieutenant in United States Marine Corps until October, 1968. Career prosecutor, serving as Deputy District Attorney for Norfolk County. Devoted and dear husband of Maria Wozniuk; extraordinary father of Matthew, Theodore, and Tatiana; exemplary father-in-law of Sharon and John; loving grandfather of Theodore, Corinne, and Matthew. Maintained his sharp intellect and humorous wit to the end; referred to the Obituaries as the Irish Sports Pages. Funeral Mass to be celebrated Friday, October 15, at 11 am, at St Ignatius Church, 28 Commonwealth Ave, Chestnut Hill, to be followed by a luncheon. The family respectfully requests that all attendees be fully vaccinated and wear a mask. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the Roxbury Latin School, 101 St. Theresa Avenue, West Roxbury, MA 02132.

My condolences to the Connolly family. I will miss Matt’s blog, his writing, and his community off commenters. We can all keep on Trekking, with Matt’s sterling example as a guide. He has helped show us the way.
My deepest condolences to the Connolly family. I grew up with Matt in the Old Harbor Village housing project. He truly was a wonderful person as were his parents and his siblings. He will be missed by all who knew him. RIP Matt.
Did he finish the book he was working on, or will someone finish it in his memory?

I am very sorry to hear this. He was a great resource, chronicler, and the only blogger I ever bothered with. Matt was also, more importantly, a generous soul. I am currently writing a book about Winter Hill’s Joe McDonald (“Joe Mac”), and we corresponded about it a few times. (“He has always been a mystery character to me. I never attempted to find out much about him so I look forward to seeing what you eventually disclose.”) I will be sure to acknowledge him in the book for his many contributions to the research regarding the Boston underworld and for his assistance and support.
Matt was the best chronicler of organized crime in Boston .He was far superior
to the fakers at the BG who wrote fiction as facts and sold their product to
a gullible public.Matt told the truth ,particularly about the FBI and their treatment
of John Connolly.His opinion was worth something. May he now rest in peace.
