Oh Sweet Mystery of Life: Trump and the Republicans

A Present Day Republican

Life has its many mysteries. Some are probably never going to be solved; others at a future date may be solved, or if not that, at least better understood. Here is one: “Three months after a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol to try to overturn his November election loss, about half of Republicans believe the siege was largely a non-violent protest or was the handiwork of left-wing activists “trying to make Trump look bad, . . .”

Here’s another great mystery: “Six in 10 Republicans also believe the false claim put out by Trump that November’s presidential election “was stolen” from him due to widespread voter fraud . . . .”

Unfortunately, with respect to the raid on the Capitol on June 6, 2021, we are simply told not to believe what our eyes told us and that it was non violent. Nor are we to believe that all the folk who have been arrested, 400 so far, were Trump supporters.

What is wrong with Republicans that so many believe blatant falsehoods. The only basis upon which their belief stands is that Trump has told them what to believe so they twist themselves into such states that make pretzels look like straight lines trying to support Trump’s version of things.  Sadly, they are supporting an irrational guy who likes to make false predictions of political races.

Do you remember when Obama beat Romney that Trump claimed voting machines wiped out votes for Romney?  He did the same thing this year claiming the voting machines did the same thing against him even in the face of paper ballots that validated the voting machine totals.

Do you remember what Trump said in a series of tweets after the 2012 Obama victory. “The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy” . . . “We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!” . . . “Lets fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice! The world is laughing at us.” . . . “This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!” . . . “Our country is now in serious and unprecedented trouble…like never before.”. . . ““Our nation is a once great nation divided!”

Sound familiar? It was reported that initially Trump believed Romney had more votes. In tweets he deleted he said about Obama: “He lost the popular vote by a lot and won the election. We should have a revolution in this country!” He also said: “More votes equals a loss … revolution!”  Trump always lost more votes than his opponent so he changed his tune to fit his circumstances.

On October 26 before the election Trump was saying if he lost the election was rigged.  In other words he should have been declared the winner before the election started.

The one thing Trump predicted right was that the nation was divided. But one other thing I am sure that he never in his longest days would have believed that there were so many saps in the Republican Party who would believe that: despite losing the Electoral College Vote, the Popular Vote, and over 60 times in court challenging the election,  he won the election.

The bottom line is that for these Republicans the election was unnecessary. They believed Trump the winner before the first vote was cast. There was nothing  that could change their minds. Oh sweet mysteries of life that there are so many Americans who would forfeit their democracy so easily.

  1. Recounts, recounts, re-recounts. Republicans to the left, Republicans to the right, yet, onward came the naysayers. The Republicans testing machines and finding no significant problems. The Republicans stole the election for Biden! Yes, that’s it!

    1. Many suffering from TDS believed for four years in Russian Collusion, Hillary believed the Russians stole her election, Pelosi claimed the election was “hijacked”; millions marched against Trump’s victory and swore “resistance”. How many ranted, “Trump’s not my president”?

Of course, Trump resorted to hyperbolic rhetoric. So, too, have many Dems and bloggers. Biden got “four Pinnochios” from the liberal Wash Post for calling a Georgia law, “Sick, Sick” “a Jim Eagle”. Did Biden know what Jim Crow laws were, mandating segregation in schools, restaurants, rest rooms, buses?

Dems routinely cast hyperbolic invectives, “racist, sexist” at those who think differently.

Why do doubts linger? Five reasons: Firstly, in 2020, many states changed election procedures questionably unconstitutionally. Study Mark Levin. Secondly, “circumstantial evidence” of fraud existed: (200 affidavits; videos showing votes changing; videos showing unmarked trucks unloading boxes at polls after midnight, at 3:00 A.M.) Thirdly, many went to bed seeing Trump leading comfortably, and awoke to see his winning margin shrink then ended after a day or two. Fourthly, many simply asked, “How did Biden who figuratively could not get 80 people at a rally, get 80 million votes?” Fifthly, it was not far-fetched to question Biden’s last-minute slim victories in states: GA, AZ, WI, PA (by 0.2, 0.4, 0.7 and 1.2 percentage points). Trump supporters were asking for a fair recount.

None of the Courts you cited held a trial on the complaints, rather summarily dismissed them, generally procedurally. History will tell us with more certainty about the election. No doubt, doubts will linger about many historical events: Remember the Maine, the Gulf of Tonkin, WMD, JFK’s election? Doubts persist.

    2. Throughout 2020, trump’s rallies were mostly peaceful. On Jan 6, the hundreds of thousands at the Mall were peaceful. Of the thousands who marched to the Capitol, a few hundred were violent/destructive. Riots and violence are deplorable. So, too, the 250 Summer riots/violence were deplorable, too. Most protesters were peaceful.

    3. Biden: Look at the gullible (politicians and corporations) who believe Biden’s false alarms about “Jim Crow” laws “on steroids”. Jim Crow laws are unconstitutional. If Biden had a beef with Georgia’s statue, he could have tested it constitutionality in Court. But no, Joe used his bully pulpit to inflame, to bear false witness, to sow divisiveness.

    4. You know, Apostle Matthew’s “Do not judge, lest you be judge” was directed at Pharisees. Matthew wrote, paraphrasing, “When you remove the log from your own eye, then when you see clearly, you will be able to remove the motes (specs) from others’ eyes”

Scripture admonishes Pharisees, the Holier than thou, the smearers, the character assassins, the bearers of false witness, especially by the hypocrites.

See: 2 Timothy 3: 16-17: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” John 7:24: “Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” Matthew 7:1-29: “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”

    Forthrightly.

    • Whew… thought you were a lost cause until, thankfully, you addressed the Trump administration & supporters in #4.

True . . .truly you’ve discerned I support Trump’s policies, especially his conservative judicial appointments and pro-life positions. You may have misconstrued Scripture. But, I support misconstrues, too, under the Freedom of Speech, broadly construed.

In the mide 90’s we brought Leonard Gates to speak
at Bates College. He was accompanied by investigative
    reporter Greg Flannery.

Mr Flannery reported that Mr Gates and Bob Draise
we’re employed as supervisors at Cincinnati Bell
Telephone in the 1980’s and were requested by
their supervisors and local FBI agents to commit
    voter fraud in Cincinnati elections.

Mr Gates told the Bates College audience the
FBI is doing this throughout the country.
