There Are Walls That Make You Happy; There Are Walls That Make You Sad

Planned Mexican Border Wall

Yes, the Ruler is happy with walls. “The secretary of homeland security, working with myself and my staff, will begin immediate construction of a border wall. So badly needed. You folks know how badly needed it is as a help.” His wall will be a big, big, amazingly big wall on our border with Mexico. He has authorized five thousand more border agents who will help build the wall and then patrol it. The wall will not cost the people of the United States a dime in the end. At the beginning it will be real cash out of the American treasury that will go into building the wall; but at the end there will be some sort of accounting tricks to pretend the American people did not pay for the wall which of course they will have done.

President John F. Kennedy stood in front of the Berlin Wall. That wall made him sad. He said: “I am proud to come to this city . . . symbolized throughout the world the fighting spirit of West Berlin and I am proud to visit the federal republic . . . so many years has committed Germany to democracy and freedom and progress . . . today in the world of freedom the proudest boast is Ich bin ein Berliner.”  He went on to say people who do not understanding the great issue between the free world and communism and those who say we could work with the communists : “Let them come to Berlin.” He went on: “Freedom has many difficulties and democracy is not perfect but we have never had to put a wall up to keep our people in.”

The Prime Minister of Israel is happy with walls. Netanyahu said on Twitter earlier on Saturday: “President Trump is right. I built a wall along Israel’s southern border. It stopped all illegal immigration. Great success. Great idea.

Mexico is sad when dealing with walls. It is unhappy with Netanyahu’s interference. It “expressed to the government of Israel, via its ambassador in Mexico, its profound astonishment, rejection and disappointment . . . “  A former head of the Mexican telecommunications tweeted: “So you like walls @netanyahu? Here you have a couple of nice designs,”  It included images of walls commemorating Bergen-Belsen, the Nazi concentration camp where diarist Anne Frank died, and the Warsaw Ghetto.

Ronald Reagan is sad when it comes to walls. He went to Berlin and said: “General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

Most walls are built to keep dangerous people out. The Great Wall of China was constructed to protect the people from the Mongol invasions and the Israeli wall to protect from the Palestinian terrorists. The Berlin wall was like a prison wall purposed to imprison people under Russian rule. The wall that Trump proposes is not to stop an invasion force nor to keep out terrorists nor to keep Americans in. It is designed according to him to stop the great flood of people desiring to come to America as well as the flood of illegal drugs to provide the insatiable demand of the United States.

The Berlin Wall is gone. Russia has no walls to keep people in anymore. It does not have to worry about  people flooding in.

China still has its wall which it does not need but it is too costly to tear it down. Israel is planning  more walls as it expands it reach into the West Bank and Eastern Jerusalem. America soon will have its big wall yet the drugs will keep flooding in to meet the demand.

As for the people flooding in we may not need a wall. Seeing the way the immigrants are being treated by the wall builder soon no one will want to come here which should make the builder’s supporters happy even if they don’t get a wall.

  1. There is zero likelihood the wall will improve the drug situation. In fact, as I pointed out, above, it will make matters worse.

  2. I heard a rumor that a federal district judge in Montana is going to issue a “nationwide restraining order” on all abortions after 6 weeks.

  3. Netanyahu falsely claimed that the enemy of my enemy is not my friend. The front line enemy of ISIS is the Syrian army, Iran, Russia and Hezbollah. They are the forces that are fighting on the ground in Syria, along with the Kurds. Those forces comprising the enemy of ISIS have killed tens of thousands of ISIS, Al Nusra and Al Qaeda fighters. How many jihadists in Syria have been killed by Turkey, America and the Oil Shieks? NATO, America Turkey and the Saudis are funding and arming the rebels 90% of whom are ISIS and AL Nusra. 2. Are you embracing the absurd Netanyahu position that Assad, Russia and Iran aren’t fighting the terrorists?. Have you been had by the Mossad or Saudi disinformation? Iran, Russia and Assad are helping the West by defeating the terrorists. Russia and Iran are supplying the boots on the ground that the U S doesn’t have to. Some have proposed two U S divisions in Jordan to fight in that quagmire and to fight as allies of ISIS against Assad. All forces fighting against Assad are in alliance with the terrorists. We should be thanking the Russians for their efforts and sacrifice in fighting ISIS.. Don’t become the Amen Corner for Bibi’s fantasies. 3. Tulsi Gabbard is an Iraq war veteran who has a better grasp on what is happening in that region than most. Kindly refrain for disparaging this knowledgeable soldier.

  4. A 2010 study on the Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration, estimating $113 billion cost to the U.S. taxpayer:
    http://www.fairus.org/docserver/uscoststudy_2010.pdf

  5. If over the next four years, we can reduce the flow of illegals, imagine the cost savings?
If we can reduce the flow of drugs by 10% or 20%, we’ll save thousands of lives of drug addicts over the next four years, and lessen the heavy socio-economic burden of drug abuse.

As Robert Frost said, “Good fences make good neighbors.” Good neighbors respect each others’ property. Illegal immigrants don’t respect America’s property and laws.

The Wall and increased border security will pay for itself:
It’s estimated that illegal immigrants cost the American taxpayer over $100 billion per year. There are some exhaustive studies out there. It ain’t cheap, and I’ve read numbers ranging from $50 billion to $300 billion.” If there are roughly 150 million taxpayers, then illegal immigrants cost the average taxpayer between about $300 and $2,000 annually.

“According to MPI estimates, about 7.8 million unauthorized immigrants present in the United States in the 2009-13 period (71 percent of the total unauthorized population) were born in Mexico and other Central America countries.” Most got here illegally crossing the border.

All countries control the flow of immigrants. America is very generous in the admission of legal immigrants.

See: MPI website, for an appreciation of how complicated this issue is, and how generous America is! Tens of millions come here legally every year and over a million are granted permanent residence or citizenship legally every year.

  6. Bill Fitz and Matt: very recently (within the last few years), federal district courts have decided that in some circumstances they can impose nationwide bans, and some circuits have upheld the bans, as my research yesterday confirmed. I don’t understand it, and I don’t want to.

  7. My lawyer sister asks…….
The courts confuse me…a NATIONWIDE ban by a circuit court? I don’t understand how lower federal courts can impose nationwide injunctions. I get it that the federal government is a party and it is the nation but a lower court’s jurisdiction isn’t nationwide …. even if there are similarly situated plaintiffs nationwide how can a class have been certified this early in the proceedings?
The law used to be such a swell dependable predictable ass with nice clean procedural rules. Now it’s just a ass. Besides which if there really were nationwide application you could never get the different results in different circuits that bump things to SCOTUS

    • Bill:

Good point by your sister. I wondered about the same thing. I thought judges had districts. I though the circuit court of appeals had certain jurisdictions or venues in which they operated. I remember you could do X in the First Circuit but could not do it in the Second Circuit. The Supreme Court would decide whether the first or second circuit was right. The First Circuit could not overrule the other nine circuits. So it is hard to see how the judge can restrain all the nation and I expect that part of the order will be quickly done away with.

Anyway, as the old saying goes it all depends on whose ox is gored, I happen to like the ban imposed by the judge so I won’t say anything about the jurisdiction issue.

      • Well. that’s honest, at least. And reveals what was of little doubt : Do as I say, not as I do! 🙂

  8. For all Kennedy’s cant he allowed the Berlin Wall to be built. It did not have to be. He listened to the experts. The East Germans had orders to back down if a bulldozer appeared to maintain the status quo. Bad debating point. Very bad.

Agree that Netanyahu’s extreme brown-nosing is meretricious. Trump knows when his arse is being licked and without doubt holds Bibi in contempt.

Reagan had to reinsert the the phrase about tearing down the wall several times. The experts, advisers and speech writers kept deleting it.

A strong leader knows when to swim against the tide of Beltway consensus. President Donald J. Trump is such a man. We are in good hands.

This is not the 19th century and the continent is not empty. We need a 21st century policy for a well populated nation. No more immigrants are needed. Let us conduct our affairs to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,” which is why the country was founded.

That being said it is being done with best wishes to the rest of the world in their pursuit of their values with no interference from an Empire based in Washington.

    • TAdzio:

Kennedy’s choice was let the wall be built or chance going to war with Russia. Hardly much of a choice. It proved he was right in the end.

Disagree with the Trump/Netanyahu split. Trump loves brown nosers. He and Bibi are like peas in the pod. What Netanyahu wants is us to war with Iran. He’ll give up settlements for a bit if he can get that.

Don’t know that about Reagan but accept your word for it. It made good theater and Reagan would know that.

Last year the 5 American winners of the Nobel prize were immigrants. Immigrants were what make the nation into the powerhouse that it is. Everyone in the nation just about is an immigrant. It is not time to stop it since there are so many gems out there who can come here and make our lives better.

Sadly, Tadzio, we cannot withdraw from the world. Even your boy recognizes the danger of ISIS. If we pull out the world becomes a mess. We benefit from peace. We have kept the peace for 70 years in Europe. Don’t fix it if it works.

      • Everyone has their own frame of reference, one supposes. Bibi is not in power in Israel to grow flowers out of his ass. He is an instrument of his people’s will. If he has a politically friendly advantage with Trump then he naturally is going to press for the best deal. He is a politician. He is Israel’s leader and a combat veteran whose brother is a national martyr. There is nothing meretricious about him.

        • “There is nothing meretricious about him.” That hurts as the word was chosen carefully.

Meretricious has two meaning. The first, and most current, is worthless, of no value. It was used with direct reference to Netanyahu’s attempted interference in the domestic affairs of the United States. No foreign government or official should have any value in the determination of how or why our borders are controlled. To my lights his input is worthless, of no value.

Further his opinions are highly suspect. While living in the US he assisted the Mossad in breaking our laws by conspiring to obtain nuclear trigger mechanisms. He is a criminal. Additionally in 2006 he was a member of the Sharon’s cabinet when medals were authorized and given to terrorists who planted bombs at American facilities in Egypt as part of the infamous Lavon Affair. Defense Minster Pincus Lavon’s career ended when he was exposed and assigned the blame for the fiasco.

In deciding American border policy no value should be given to the preaching of a man who has endorsed, indeed honored, admitted terrorism against the United States.

This is not a judgement of Netanyahu’s value to the apartheid state of Israel. It is about his value to America which is zilch. He and his expansionist Zionist project are a distinct liability to the United States.

There is a secondary, somewhat antique, meaning to meretricious. Whore-like. The behavior of a prostitute. Surely you agree I was being kindly in phrasing his interference in a domestic American matter as simply being a brown nose to Trump.

  9. The DEA has a full court press on the cartels. If Trump builds his wall, the Mexicans will boot the DEA from their nation. If that happens, the US defense against heroin will begin at half-court. Who thinks that is a good idea?

  10. John King McDonald

Yes, and there are walls that will not wear out, no matter how much you bang your head against them. Election’s have consequences . 🙂
