Up To Date Report on Covid-19 Numbers: May 15, 2020

We have 1 weeks and 2 days and we will, as Mike Pence said, “largely have this coronavirus epidemic behind us.”

Trump having now gone the herd immunity approach is urging every state to give their people freedom.  Some people in the United States have a warped idea of freedom. They believe it means they can do whatever they want. So they pick up their silly guns and stand in front of state houses asking that they be allowed to wander around freely without masks and without practicing social distancing and to gather wherever they please.

Trump is for this. He presses the people to do this. He though takes precautions that anyone who comes near him must be tested, the people in his office must wear masks, many of them are tested daily. Trump says he must be protected but has no concern for others urging them to do what is dangerous for them.

As for freedom, you don’t see these people protesting speed limits. Isn’t that a government restriction? Nor do they protest other laws governing operation of their vehicles such as not running red lights, wearing helmets on motor cycles, paying insurance and registration fees.  Why shouldn’t I in a free country just be able to take a car and drive it as I see fit.

The answer is you may endanger others. The same answer applies to the Covid-19 restrictions. You stay at home and wear masks when outside to prevent its spread to others. You do it so that the health care workers don’t get overwhelmed. It’s so simple that one questions the intelligence of those who advocate otherwise like Trump and his merry band of followers.

Again on Saturday I take a look at the death statistics over the last week to get an idea on how we are doing. I’m looking at the dates from May 9 to May 150.

The previous 3 weeks are in parenthesis:

UNITED STATES:

Total Positive cases 1,446,875 (1,284,708 / 1,103,115 / 890,524)

Average of daily new positive cases 22,602 (21,738 / 30,370 / 27,260)

Total Deaths:  87,697  (77,178 / 64,804 / 51,017)

Death daily average: 1,479 (1,768 / 1,970 / 2,041)

Deaths down and Cases up.  A change from last week.

ITALY

Positive cases: 223,885 (217,185 / 207,427 / 192,992)

Average of daily new positive cases: 953  (1,394 /2,062 / 2,937)

Total Deaths 31610 (30201 /28,236 / 25,969)

Death daily average: 201  (281 /  324 /  461)

Italy continues to decline even as it slowly opens up.

SPAIN

Positive cases: 230,689  (222,857 / 217,185 / 207,427)

Average of daily new positive cases: 1,047 (1,346 / 1,394 /2,062)

Total Deaths: 27,563  (26,299 / 24,543 / 22,524)

Death daily average: 166 (251 / 281 / 324)

Spain continues to decline. It too is opening slowly

UK

Positive cases: 241,4545  (212,629 / 178,685 / 144,635)

Average of daily new positive cases: 3,625 (4,849 / 4,864 / 4,191)

Total Deaths: 34,546 (31,315 / 27,583 / 19,566)

Death daily average: 395 (533 / 1,176 /  708)

UK as they say has flattened the curve and is moving downward in cases. It daily death rate has declined remarkably.

Germany

When Germany opened its economy it had 159,700 positive cases: In four days it went to 164,000. Last week it was at 170,588 new cases or an increase of around 900 a day. Now it is at 175,715 or an increase of 732 a day. It’s death toll was 7,510 and now is 7,931 which gives us a 105 daily rate. The opening seems not to have had a great effect to now.

————————

I’m following the death rates in 39 states. We’ll see how they move up and down over the weeks.

These are the average for the last seven days. Figures in parenthesis are what were reported over prior weeks. I looked at each state to see if it had increased, decreased or stayed even  (if difference was 1 or less) in the amounts of deaths.  Results: 10 states increased, 17 stayed even, and 12 states saw a decrease.

From these figures we are pretty much not changing too much. Death rate changes of note are states with a decrease in deaths of over 10 per day: Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan,  New Jersey, New York, and  Pennsylvania.

One state increased the death rate by over 10 a day and that was Texas.

  1. wa-llahi! Glorious Leader’s Covid Kamikaze Corp (CKC) is belly-up-to-the-bar, out here in Wisco. People have been slobbering all over each other, as they slurp down drinks. It’s SRO in the taverns. There’s going to be an explosion of disease in the cheese state in two to three weeks. A good percentage of the folks in those bars are going to come down with Covid. All the doctors in Madison have been organized to meet the threat. The prognosis in grim. Wisconsin’s disease rate had been rising, slowly. Through social distancing, and, the stay at home policy, infections and deaths had started to lose their break-neck pace. Unfortunately, the Republican dominated Supreme Court of the state ruled against Gov. Ever’s disease mitigation policy. The infection rate is expected to sky-rocket over the next couple of weeks.
From reports, we know Covid 19 can result in an arduous and grisly death. To avoid this fate, I think Trumpies should take their guns to the bars and play Russian roulette. What if they carry autos? Pick up a revolver off the floor of the tavern (they will be lying next to the bodies), and, start the game, again, until, there is no one left to play. The worst thing about the contagion is that it doesn’t just kill Trumpies. Their careless stupidity threatens all the rest of us.

This means you, Bill and NC. Glorious Leader needs your participation in the CKC.

  2. What about Obamagate and the Flynn case? Can one see any wrongdoing or illegality? Two liberals, Tom Brokaw and Bob Woodward said the Russian dossier was garbage and had been around for months and no one could verify it. Yet the FBI used it for FISA warrants. The media told the naive public it was real. What a fraud.

    1. NC:

I just knew it. You’d use “Obamagate.”

Flynn made a deal not to be prosecuted for his illegal lobbying for Turkey, his involvement in the plot to kidnap the guy from Turkey living in America, to get his son out from under his little frauds, and in fact lied to the FBI.

  3. “Some people in the United States have a warped idea of freedom. They believe it means they can do whatever they want. So they pick up their silly guns and stand in front of state houses asking that they be allowed to wander around freely without masks and without practicing social distancing and to gather wherever they please.”

I have a modest proposal. Let us dispatch armed troops to those state houses and have the officers in charge give this order:

“Lay down your arms, you damned rebels or you are all dead men. Disperse ye villains, ye rebels! Disperse! Lay down you arms!” –from “Thomas Paine: A Political Life” by John Keane, describing the Battle of Lexington.

    https://books.google.com/books?id=DeeZ1yHjlFUC&pg=PT143&lpg=PT143&dq=disperse+ye+damned+rebels&source=bl&ots=8jBKp9kFnk&sig=ACfU3U0HjHNYjeegAvI8zyQbyO4OjgGngw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwia7du-gbnpAhWGmOAKHVN0Bv4Q6AEwCnoECAUQAQ#v=onepage&q=disperse%20ye%20damned%20rebels&f=false

We have seen how well that strategy worked before.

    1. Life, Liberty and the other thing! Rat own!!!!

Those guys made a statement! No masks is fine with Bonespurs. That way all the stupid people will die. Uh oh. Wait a minute. Those are the people that got him elected!

Put the masks back on! Quick!!!!!!
