Now please do not tell me this is not the prime example of daffiness.

Daffy Donald in his own words in a recording with Bob Woodward said in March 2020 that he was playing down danger of the virus and would continue to do that.

Daffy Donald a couple of days after that said that he always overplayed the danger of the virus. You see what I mean. Only someone totally daffy would say he is playing down something and overplaying it. Don’t you agree?

Did you hear what Trump keeps saying about Covid-19? Recall that on February 7 he told Woodward it was very dangerous and it spread through the air. He knew this sometime in January after his talk with Xi of China. What did he tell the American people. Remember something to the effect that we had fifteen cases and soon it would go to zero.  Remember him also saying it would go away.

In fact he repeated that a day or two ago when he was at a town hall type meeting saying some day it will go away. I suppose that is true. It might disappear after everyone dies from it but the last person standing can say “Daffy was right. It went away.”

I suppose you heard him talking about the new White House approach to the virus. He’s now a believer that “Once you get to a certain number — we use the word herd — once you get to a certain number, it’s going to go away.” He now thinks the best thing we can do is to have “herd mentality.” I wrote months ago that Daffy was planning to go that way. He has now found a doctor who will back him up. This is Scott Atlas, brought into advise him. His specialty is as a radiologist and Fox News guest  not in the fields he is advising Daffy about.

When I heard his name I remember the guy named Atlas in the old comics. He was the guy at the beach who went around kicking sand in other people’s eyes. If anyone said anything he would threaten to beat the person up. I wondered if Daffy remembered that cartoon when he brought in this doctor who has advertised himself as being connected with Stanford Medical School which he is not. His former colleagues at that school issued a letter in which they questioned his expertise in the area he is now advising Daffy and pointing out he is going against  the accepted science.

Of course, that he is going against the accepted science is probably what Daffy finds as his most endearing quality. Daffy does it all the time. He rejects climate change as being responsible for the massive wild fires in the West. He told the experts that it will soon cool down.

Most recently the CDC Director Redfield told Congress: “Face masks, these face masks, are the most important powerful public health tool we have, and I will continue to appeal for all Americans, all individuals in our country, to embrace these face coverings. I’ve said it, if we did it for 6, 8, 10, 12 weeks, we’d bring this pandemic under control. These actually– we have clear scientific evidence they work, and they are our best defense. I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against COVID than when I take a COVID vaccine.”

What does Charles Atlas say about that? He’s against face masks. He has said the more people that get the virus the better. Trump agrees. How many will have to get it to get the herd immunity? No one really knows nor does anyone know if herd immunity works with Covid-19. That is no one knows how long the immunity will last if you do get it.

I suggest you stay tuned to see if Atlas will continue to kick sand in Daffy’s eyes so he does not see the number of American deaths that will occur with his herd immunity approach.

  6. I don’t think the bully who kicked sand into the face of the skinny kid had a name. That said, you can be sure that Trump would be courting the vote of the bully. Make America Great Again? Please. We’ve got disease, racial unrest and high unemployment. Time for a change. Let’s send President “Not My Fault!” back to Mar a Lago, where he can play golf and work on his absentee ballot.

  7. Nothing daffy about changing opinions.

    Feb 18 Doctor Fauci says “risk is low for the American public” and you don’t need a mask . . .USA today interview. As late as February 29, Doctor Fauci described the risk as low. Not until near the WHO declaring a Pandemic in March did Fauci change his mind. Same with Doctor Adams, Surgeon General, “no mask needed”. Changed his mind in March. Were Fauci and Adams daffy to say one thing in February and another in March? As facts change, opinions change.

    Joe Biden said if Trump acted sooner, “all the people would still be alive. All the people, I’m not making this up. Just look at the data. Look at the data”. Joe was making it up.

    Matt writes, if we practiced “herd immunity”, Coronavirus “might disappear after everyone dies from it.” Everyone? Sweden practiced herd immunity and less than 6,000 have died out of a population of 10 million. Do you think everyone in Sweden will die from Coronavirus?

    Atlas is right. Lockdowns cause deaths, too.

  8. I believe you have misidentified Charles Atlas. He wasn’t kicking sand in your face. He sold an exercise program called “Dynamic Tension” through which you could build up your muscles and punch the sand-kicking bully. The first lesson only cost ten cents. Please note that the Lion, the king of beasts, did not lift weights or use exercise equipment . Of course he didn’t, he just naturally used the principles of dynamic tension.

  9. You’re obsessed. Only President Trump took the tough stand to close our borders while Pelosi, Cuomo, Newsom & deBlasio encouraged more international travel.

    It is our science community, China, and the WHO who let us down, and big city mayors who inserted infected seniors into nursing homes, accounting for 40% of the alleged Covid deaths!

    President Trump isn’t responsible for those disastrous decisions, or for morbid obesity and diabetes – which directly contribute to Covid mortality rates. (Only 6% of deaths are Covid only.)

    Facts matter.
